Project Summary

The project “Precious borderlines” aimed to enable pupils from Austrian and Slovenian Styria to deal with the topic “border” in a historical and artistic way. With the support of experts from the fields of history and art, the participating pupils approached the concept of “border” and expanded it – starting from the historical-political border – to other areas in which one may be confronted with borders. This open exploration of the concept and the value of borders was raised to an artistic level, as the students dealed with the topic artistically at the school locations, but also at the border between Austria and Slovenia itself. In three meetings, mixed groups of pupils used their experiences to create their own works of art in which their personal involvement with the term “border” became visible. The project concluded with a joint exhibition of the project contributions in Graz. Subsequently, the works of art will also be exhibited in other locations, such as the liaison office of Styria in Brussels in November and after that also in Deutschlandsberg and Maribor. The aim of the project was to promote the European idea and the internationality of the partner schools, to provide cross-border working and learning experiences for the participating students and to increase their personal, social and intercultural competences.
