Project Summary

The teaching teams of both schools wanted to use a cultural exchange as a way of providing challenging practice opportunities in a real-life context for pupils studying English as a foreign language. Practicing language skills during the visiting weeks is a good start, but the added value lay in the periods of preparation and reflection between the visiting weeks. Teachers explored ways to let pupils take ownership of the organisation of these weeks as much as possible to improve the mastery of their foreign language skills. We foresaw four phases in the development of good practice among teachers. Due to the corona restrictions, only one phase could go ahead.
The materials and practices that were tested in this first phase were to be adapted and improved in the following phases. Unfortunately, this did not happen. Therefore, we have not been able to achieve the results that we had hoped for. The first experiences are there, as we had foreseen in our project application. It made us eager to continue this project, unfortunately we did not have the opportunity due to the corona restrictions.
