Project Summary

Political apathy and disenfranchisement are dangers to democracy. Our project aims to reduce both on a transnational level by fostering a strategic partnership between the German organisation “Projekt Denkende Gesellschaft” and the Dutch “De Beweging” – two initiatives promoting democratic dialogue and communication. The aim of the partnership is to broaden the methods and concepts through intensive exchange of both organisation-teams and through carrying out joint actions promoting political dialogue. Also we aim at developing a European perspective on democratic dialogue in the face of the European elections 2019.

Both “Projekt Denkende Gesellschaft” and “De Beweging” have tested new methods of political education during national elections in their respective countries. To combat voter disenfranchisement and division in society, “Projekt Denkende Gesellschaft” engaged in individual conversations from door to door, while “De Beweging” organised group discussions and meetings with several participants. Both organisations aim at promoting political dialogue beyond their own social circles and want to challenge the feeling that politics has nothing to do with oneself.

We think that our ideas can inspire people for the European idea. Ahead of the elections for the EU-parliament in 2019, we aim at engaging people with Europe by fostering a sense of European public engagement. We want to talk to people about Europe, encourage them to take part in European debates through dialogue and thereby promote participation in the European elections 2019.
