Project Summary
Promote Your Neighbour! is the name of our project; a title that encompasses the goal we want to achieve and the spirit we aspire to foster in this endeavour.
“It is easy to believe we are each waves and forget we are also the ocean.”
During these turbulent times, never has it been more important to reach out, build bridges and strengthen connections to our European counterparts.
Previous Erasmus projects presented us with the opportunity to travel far to build relations within the European Community; with the perspective of Brexit in sight, we felt compelled to create a project with our students that focuses on fortifying relationships with our neighbours.
Henceforth, our main objective is to establish a positive and cooperative relationship between our school (Sternschule) in Deutschlandsberg, Austria, and Osnovna šola Kungota in Zgornja Kungota, Slovenia. We are confident that in strengthening the relationships between our schools, the effect will positively ripple in bringing the greater communities closer together – a concept that ties in fittingly with the Europe 2020 strategy.
We have put together a detailed plan as to reach this goal, which has been laid out in detail throughout this application, and which I will summarize now.
The first year of our project focuses on I.T. skills, language development and cultural exchange. Our first concrete goal is to create one combined promotional video; show-casing both the Austrian and Slovenian regions. The students will work together in transnational teams to make these videos, which will feature three languages: English, German and Slovene. The students will acquire the required skills through workshops as organised by the teachers and experts.
Our planned methodologies include I.T. centred workshops carried out by experts, homework assignments to be fulfilled by the students at home, continued communication via Skype conferences and the uploading of our work to E-Twinning.
The main focus of the second year is in a more practically creative direction with the focus on culinary skills and the creation of our own recipe book! We have organised workshops to be carried out in both schools; the kids will all learn how to cook the most beloved and traditional dishes from both countries. The students will learn the background to these meals and combine all the information in a lovingly crafted recipe book. The book will be produced predominantly through English, but will also feature the native languages of our students (German and Slovene).
The Grand Finale of this project, a ‘food fair’ will take place in Austria; and will be a formal event, full of action. The large school garden of the Sternschule will be fully decked out with little huts which will be used to display the products of our project. This event will unveil a large array of dishes from Slovenia and Austria as prepared by the students and will be on display for tasting, the recipe book will be available for viewing and purchase, promotional flyers as designed by the students will feature and the promotional film will be presented on a big screen.
Entertainment will be provided by the students; music, dancing, sketches from Slovenia and Austria.
In light of recent events where it has been mandatory to remain isolated and cut off from each-other, we believe our project has never been more relevant to appreciate each-other and reach out to our neighbours!
