Project Summary
The FAIR.E ( FATR .E) project – Favour travelling and relations in Europe. France, Germany, Italy, Romania, all together for a solidary and united Europe – was built by 4 French, German, Italian and Romanian middle schools, and aims at changing the way young people view Europe and at accompanying them into the collective building of an enlightened European citizenship.
Because North Cotentin, thanks to its specificities and its insular nature, is an uncommon territory, the chosen partners are schools situated in two geographical extremes for two of them, as Cherbourg is, the fourth one, less known, being located in central Europe.
All the partners wish to federate the pupils around motivating activities, mixing the actual meeting of the other with digital use, which will allow about 160 European pupils aged 12 – 14 to discover the cultural and historical heritage of each while working more specifically on citizenship, commitment and interknowledge values.
The teams of the partner schools agreed on the following objectives :
1. From knowledge to skills : the stake of an open pedagogy for our pupils.
A – The exploring pupil : Have the pupils discover the culture of a European partner by identifying what we have in common and sharing our differences in order to develop the feeling of belonging to the same Europe.
B – The 2.0 pupil : Giving keys to understanding Europe which is both so close and far for our pupils who don’t always have the possibility to travel, by reducing the geographical distances, using digital tools ( e-twinning, virtual classes, zoom, modules and quizzes on line, all elaborated by our pupils to have our traditions, school system and patterns known.)
C – The transmitting pupil : Developping skills of guidance between pupils and primary schoolchildren , by becoming ambassadors near the families, friends and territories of a united and solidary Europe thanks to a strolling exhibition between our 4 countries.
2. A plurality of mobilities in order to prepare the school of tomorrow : pupils, teachers and educational professionals.
A- Building long-lasting relationships with our partners, allowing pupils to exchange and meet around common thematics. Reception and departure times are prepared upstream and represent an important moment in the school life and career of our pupils. The educational community as well as all the pupils will carry those same values of fraternity , mutual aid and opening to the world.
B – Favouring the discovery of new educative patterns and good practical experiences of teaching, training all the staff committed to this project to the stake of the school of tomorrow.
C – Improving the autonomy and the ability of knowing how to be of our pupils.. Once the project achieved, we expect our pupils to be able to understand and accept the others with all their differences while adapting more easily to new situations ( « Knowing the other allows me to know myself « ). these skills can be used within the different lessons and individual and school knowledge.
3. An ambitious project for the school and the pupils.
A – The acquired skills will be useful for school as well as for the personal development of our pupils ( « I am a European enlightened citizen » ). In that way, school fulfills the educational expectations with no socio- economic restraint. Why don’t we suggest to create a European CV pass for young people ?
B – Our school inaugurates a first guiding project with European partner schools, which will allow us to be inspired by their former experiences, compare our organizations and accentuate the international dimension given to our school.
C – Getting the other members of the school to feel like joining another Eramus + project.
We expect the project to allow pupils to forge strong and long-lasting friendships between young Europeans ,as well as a common feeling of belonging to the same Europe, with a significant development of social skills and communication in a foreign language for each. The project also aims at developping new practical experiences : the teams will work with families, collectivities, associations and will then develop other educational methods dedicated to our pupils’ achievement and to the influence of the schools. The schools will use this project as a lever to increase an awakening to internationality and interculture as well as leading to new activities, new projects corresponding to the academical dynamics.
