Project Summary
First and foremost, the two partners in the project Protection of our cultural heritage are schools in the Czech Republic and France, both are close to the capital city (Clamecy is 2 hours from Paris, Jindřichův Hradec is 2 hours from Prague), but they are in rural areas. The environment is very green and sheltered in both places. The two teachers working on the project, Mrs Hauzrova and Miss Jacquet, met ten years ago in an eTwinning Seminar in Germany and since then, their collaboration has been constant and their bond is a true one as they have proved reliable in several eTwinning projects. Most pupils from both schools come from modest families and this project would like to offer them the opportunity to collaborate and then to meet, with some help from the E.U. They would be hosted by the pupils involved in the project, a real opportunity to create successful and genuine bonds.
A number of involved pupils would be 44, aged from 15 to 18 years old. The French ones have chosen to study more English with the “European Section”. The Czech ones have been selected because of their motivation to take part in an international project and good attitude to learn English more. They will be from two different groups which will cooperate and help each other especially working in eTwinning because the topic Cultural heritage is very wide. They will pass on their knowledge during the second year of the project in the subject English for the European Union.
The first objective for pupils is to cooperate in order to work on a project related to the preservation of their heritage. It should be interesting for young people to look around them and see that what exists today is old and has been transmitted and preserved. It is up to everyone to make an effort to keep this heritage and transmit it to the future generations. By “heritage”, here we mean tangible and intangible culture and natural heritage, such as: monuments, bulidings, works of art, oral traditions, customs and folklore and natural sites.
Other main goals of the project are for pupils to increase their level in the English language (written and oral skills) by working on different media, mostly using eTwinning and diferent ICT tools., speaking together and exchanging on a regular basis for two school years. New skills working on cumputer are supposed too. On top of that, the teachers would like them to open their minds to other European cultures (it seems very important at their age and for their tolerance in the future), to collaborate with others (group works, teams…), to know more about their next-door environment and to be able to present it to their schoolmates and to another school.
Both schools will work regularly, at first it will be introducing the pupils and schools, then understanding the term “cultural heritage” and parts which form it. Through presentations and different tasks in Twinspace they will prepare for their partners´ visits to be able to finish their project by creating a travel guide which should contain information about visited places, their feelings from visited places and their recommendation. Both schools will cooperate with specialists from local landmarks – castles and museums – who will explain to them how monuments and buildings are preserved, what is possible to do and how interesting places can be declared UNESCO Heritage Sites.
Eventually, the outcome of this “adventure” will be the presentation of a final work to schools, parents, the public in towns, and it will include exhibitions, lectures and discussions and numeric media: articles in local newspapers and webpages of both schools, interviews in the radio or on TV. The created travel guide will be used by pupils and teachers in both schools and will be given to the information offices in Jindřichův Hradec and Clamecy for tourists and people interested in cultural heritage.
The two teachers involved will get to increase their skills as teachers by exchanges about their practices very regularly and they plan to work with their pupils once a week. They also presuppose cooperation with other teachers at school who could be motivated to work in this project and even future ones.
