Project Summary

The transnational partnership, composed by the Colegiul National School Institutes “Mihai Eminescu”, in Romania, “Kurtkoy Anadolu Lisesi”, in Turkey, “Agrupamento de Escolas de Tabuaço”, in Portugal, and coordinated by I.I.S. “E. Ferrari”, in Italy, has conceived the project “R.E.S.I.LIEN.T. – euRopEan partnerShIp to promote resiLIENce as educational Tool against early school leaving” in order to enhance the theme of resilience in education as a tool for promoting the inclusion of disadvantaged and at risk of marginalization students, by virtue of the school and territorial contexts in which the Schools are located. Specifically, the I.I.S. “E. Ferrari” records a percentage of students dropping out of school during the year that borders on the 10%; the Colegiul National “Mihai Eminescu” has a school population of 45% of students coming from family contexts characterized by economic uncertainty; in the “Kurtkoy Anadolu Lisesi” 60% of students come from economic-social contexts defined as medium-low and the percentage of early school leaving exceeds 16%; the “Agrupamento de Escolas de Tabuaço”, finally, registers among its students a certain difficulty in reaching satisfactory levels of “life competences” and active citizenship, probably due to the presence of social exclusion phenomena found in different families.
The project idea arises from the good practice launched by the European Commission, and promoted by Epale and Indire: “establishing a network of positive reference figures – ROLE MODEL – that can, through the telling of their stories – Stories of Resilience – inspire those who live in difficult contexts by activating processes of trust in the possibility of drawing positive effects from negative situations” (Supporting the prevention of radicalization leading to violent extremism – EC Communication of 14 June 2016). The partner Schools, through the practice of storytelling as a method of collecting European resilience stories, aim at promoting social inclusion and encouraging active citizenship in order to prevent social exclusion and inspire students, motivating them to learn and increase their confidence in the future, especially with regard to those living in particular conditions of economic, social and cultural disadvantage.
The project experience will last 24 months and will be addressed to 28 students, aged between 16 and 18 and enrolled in the second two years of secondary higher education, for each partner school, for a total of 112 participants. 4 transnational exchanges will be organized in Romania, Turkey, Portugal and Italy, hosted by each partner School and 7 students per School will be involved. “R.E.S.I.LIEN.T.” will be realized in order to allow students to analyze, research and tell, through the methodology of storytelling, stories of resilience and Role Model in different fields (school, civil society, politics and economy) that will have to be described within a docufilm and a collection of short stories, project outputs.
Specific project objectives will be:
– to enhance more inclusive and welcoming learning environments and school contexts;
– to increase students’ motivation to participate in school life and learning;
– to enhance participants’ life skills, key, transversal and active citizenship competences;
– increase the levels of internationalisation of partner schools, encouraging students meeting anddifferent European educational systems comparison.
The project activities will have the following impacts on participants: development of critical thinking skills, initiative and learning to learn skills; improvement of digital skills; acquisition of functional alphabetical, analytical, research and argumentation skills; improvement of foreign language skills; strengthening of confidence in one’s own resources and potential; development of coping skills, i.e. ways of adapting to face emotional and interpersonal problems; raising awareness of discrimination and social exclusion issues; strengthening of key, soft and life skills.
The project also aims to improve the Training Offers proposed by the partner Schools, on which it is expected to produce the following impacts: reduction of school dropout and early school leaving rates; enhancement of active, digital and laboratory teaching activities; activation of resilience education paths; planning of transnational cooperation interventions to be implemented within the Erasmus+ Programme or through the eTwinning platform.
