Project Summary

*CONTEXT:
When we look around us, almost everywhere we notice visible climate changes, from North to South, West to East. The seasons are not as they should be, and almost any lake and sea around the world contain plastic particles. These drastic environmental changes motivated us to compel ourselves to get engaged in a clear environmental protection campaign through this project’s activities. Using the UN’s legal instruments for scientific research as our main source of getting relevant and updated information, our project aims to give a useful contribution to arouse the awareness towards this global issue among youths and their communities.
The Norwegian partner intends to get certified as an Eco-lighthouse school, and function as a model to be followed by the other partners. Working towards this aim, will give us a sort of “environmental guardian”-role in own community. In this way we commit ourselves to follow the strict rules of environmental protection, and through a targeted transfer of good environmental practices, in cooperation with five European partners, and a wider dissemination and promotion of municipal good practices in the fields of Environmental Health, Air, Transport, Energy, Biodiversity, and Information & Education, we hope to succeed to achieve the project’s main target.

*PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
We intend to develope complex, interdisciplinary and adapted pedagogical skills within the target group, and therefore we commit ourselves to fulfill a number of relevant objectives:
1.Using notions, concepts and principles specific to environmental-protection education;
2.Developing the capacity to investigate reality and find good environmental solutions;
3.Assuming and implementing a responsible behaviour towards the environment.
We want students to be capable of:
•describing the concepts: ecosystem, phenomena-phases, waste management, protected areas management, using specific languagewith relevant terms of understanding;
•expressing ideas, opinions, reasoned assumptions about pollution-induced situations;
•creating multimedia presentations on the identified issues;
•carrying out an independent investigation activity in the local horizon and act directly in sorting/recicling the waste both at home and at school;
•experimenting with their own solutions for ameliorating the negative anthropic impact in an “adopted area”;
•developing responsible behaviours and attitudes by reference to legal norms in the field of the environment;
•promoting balanced behaviour between the individual and the natural environment- show concrete recyclable solutions ;
•making responsible and fair decisions on environmental behaviour- collecting all kind of waste in the nearby outdoor area;
•demonstrating understanding of the consequences of their behaviour in relation to the state of health of the environment.

*PARTICIPANTS:
Pupils and teachers with their families from 5 European countries; Norway (the project coordinator), Poland, Spain, Romania and Turkey. Each partner will also engage specialists in environmental protection, aknowledged Eco-lighthouse institutions, environmental protection advisers in the local, national and international community; the local politicians and the mayor of own municipality.

*CONDUCTION METHODOLOGY:
We shall use both study visits, persuasive dissemination, seminars, lectures and monitored PBL-based workshops followed by detailed evaluations to achieve project’s main aim. This selection of methodologies will hopefully help to develope competencies necessary for every individual to be able to shape and increase capacities to adapt and act correctly to climate change that affect own communities. In this way we believe to manage to influence a whole comunity to get directly involved in a meaningful campaign of environmental protection for many years to come. Targeted transfer of good eco-friendly practice wil have an essential place in any method we shall use.

*ACTIVITIES:
There are planned 1 coordinator meeting and 4 students mobilities, where youths and adults can learn to act correctly in order to protect the environment either they are hosts or guests. At schools we will organize many local instructive lectures and seminars for teachers, school staff, pupils and parents led by local and external experts in Eco-friendly /green flag practice. We will organize diverse topic related activities and workshops for all participants in our way to achieve the project’s aim(s).

*RESULTS WITH LONG TERM BENEFIT:
-active website with own designed logo
-3 digital platforms : Twinspace, Facebook and Skype
-an eco-board with permanent evaluation and dissemination
-5 digital eco-friendly logbooks to last and fill in our actions for many years to come
-5 environmental campaign e-books to raise the awareness about the threats our planet faces
-be aknowledged as an eco-friendly/green-flag school
-spread a consciuous eco-friendly attitude to a wide audience, on many social levels
