Project Summary
“Read to Animate” is a collaborative project among partner schools from Bulgaria, Estonia, Greece, Italy, Poland and Portugal. This project undertakes a key role of taking attention of working with textual genres of universal literature through the production of animated films. The audiovisual language allows students to learn the process of producing a video, in a dialogue between the curricular contents and the cultural knowledge. Through reading, images analyses, preparing screenplays, and other aspects of audiovisual production, students will have a multidisciplinary learning that contribute to the development of skills, critical understanding of the world and of new technologies, improving the integral formation of citizens.
During the period of this school partnership projects, participants will know authors and literary genres that exist in each partner country, they will understand that narrated stories are important in order for the preservation of a culture heritage and cultural identity.
Then, they will produce animate films; logo projects; digital illustrated calendars; booktrailers; podcasts; ebooks and audiobooks; a catalogue of established authors and illustrators of children books; a webpage, reports, posters and presentations.
With this perspective, we ensure our students to take part in useful activities in different cultural perspectives and with different students from other countries. Our students, their parents, and all the elements involved in the project, can enrich themselves culturally, knowing their roots, through narratives of traditional oral literature, as well as through contemporary authors. It will foster in young people a greater knowledge of themselves and others, through the human dimension that only literature can bring. In this sense, they will be made aware of different cultures and of a world that is intended to be an inclusive place.
Initially, literary texts will be selected by the different partners, which will be the beginning of a process of promotion and creation of reading habits. It is hoped that there will be moments of sharing of these same readings in each school involved.
This book’s selection will come after surveys that will measure the reading habits of the students from 10 to 14 years old to be involved in the project “Read to animate”.
Also at this stage, tools of information research will be introduced, through an articulation with the school library, which will promote the application of guidelines for research, treatment and evaluation of information. Students will be better acquainted with the authors and illustrators of the texts they are reading, thus increasing their information literacy skills.
Subsequently, the texts read and shared, as well as the possible illustrations, will be the basis for an artistic work, the creation of animated films, promotion (booktrailers) and even of audiobooks.
For this to be a properly oriented work, in the first LTT, specific training will be available, promoted by the coordinating country (Portugal).
The contents produced will be shared, making known the literary heritage of each country, acquiring with it its culture and history.
Through books translated into English, each partner will also carry out readings from other countries and will produce artistic content in the previously mentioned digital format.
The promotion of cinematographic art will also be carried out in animated film festivals. This will be a cultural event open to the surrounding community, with the goal of disseminating practices.
All the work done will be regularly made available and commented by the project partners on a web page created for this purpose.
