Project Summary

Our partnership is based on a long-term cooperation. For this project we decided to deal with the topic of human rights which has become an important issue which everybody is touched by. Our partner schools are spread all over Europe and thus are facing different, but also similar difficulties and challenges.
Our countries are multiracial and multicultural. Problems such as xenophobia and intolerance are growing and bringing social unrest all over Europe. Some of the basic human rights are currently more discussed because of increasing terrorism and fear which goes with it. A lot of young people take the human rights for granted and they do not realize how easily they can be weakened or even lost. We believe this could be prevented by creating higher awareness and education about our and everybody’s rights. In the project we will also see human rights connected to the right for a clean environment and sustainable climate.

Throughout the two years of the project more than 400 students will participate in the project activities. Also, the methods can be later used by our schools in everyday teaching and can be spread through dissemination not only in the school but also the local environment and community.

Teachers and students are going to meet at five conferences in Norway, Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland and Italy where the participants will be instructed by external experts from various organizations about different methods of teaching and about the great variety of topics related to human rights (e.g. Human Rights Academy).

In each school, teachers and students, will organize a Human Rights School Day (to celebrate December 10 “International Human Rights Day”). Those, who participated in the conferences, will pass the knowledge which they gained in the human rights workshop on to their students and peers and will discuss the situation in their own country and region.

Based on it, students will create a visual outcome in the form of posters, paintings, drawings, photos etc. which will be inspired and focused on the human rights topics in their country or region. The outcomes can be related to any of the 30 basic human rights based on UN Declaration of Rights.

Afterwards, we will look at the topic from the international perspective during the video conferences which will be held between different pairs of countries.

At conferences students and teachers will be working face to face on different activities. They will gain knowledge in workshops lead by national or local professionals or volunteers specialized in certain subjects (e.g. Human Rights Academy, Nobel Peace Centre – Norway, Kindernothilfe Duisburg – Germany, Dětské krizové centrum – Czech Republic, ImolaBukavu – Italy) concerning the human rights. To give a better understanding of how far solidarity is needed the students will take part in different activites in international groups. Thus, they will try to respect and tolerate each other and learn to work as a part of a team. We hope in this way new multicultural friendships will be formed and continue in the future.

At conferences students will cooperate in mixed international groups and create different artistic works, posters etc. inspired by various aspects of human rights topic. The best of these will be chosen and used to produce a CALENDAR OF RIGHTS for the next school years. The host school will arrange and distribute them to all the partner schools. Other products will be gathered and used as a document in the local media and for promoting the project.

All the above-mentioned activities will strengthen the awareness and influence the behavioural patterns of the students which can be applied in their personal lives and help them to be better citizens inside our multicultural Europe.

The main project’s objective is to deal with human rights from the broad perspective and with different ways of their application in various countries in Europe. We will learn how to use the acquired knowledge in our everyday lives. The topic will be approached both regionally and nationally as well as from a European point of view. The focus will be on awareness and acceptence of diversity.

Participating schools will use the methodology and techniques acquired from workshops in future lessons in different subjects. Some students and teachers will prepare lessons for other schools in the region.

The works of art including CALENDAR OF RIGHTS will be made available for the other teachers and used as a stimulus for teaching about human rights. The same applies to teaching languages.

Human Rights Academy will provide us with a booklet “Build bridges not walls” and some of the tasks will be translated from Norwegian into English and spread to all partner schools.

Participating in these projects also helps our schools to gain a good reputation in the area and makes them more visible, respected and able to influence public opinion and awareness of the issues we have focused on.
