Project Summary
In the project Variety is the spice of life- inclusive education in action four schools are taking part. The Polish school is the initiator and coordinator of the project.
The project’s idea emerges from the needs of students, teachers and local community that groups work in. On the basis of the survey done in all participating schools we know that great deal of students’ and parents’ interest lies in better understanding of specific way of behaviour of disabled students and in acquiring knowledge about diversity in school life. By term diversity we mean knowledge about minorities and also different disabilities. The aim of this educating endeavour is to activate disabled and SEN students, encourage regular students to colaborate and cooperate with them and also to get familiar with the culture of school minorities. Both Polish and all partners’ schools encounters serious problems with motivating, activating and preventing early school leaving among pupils with special educational needs, emotional disorders, with autism spectrum disorders, disabilities and immigrants. Each of project’s school deals with students with Asperger syndrome, ADHD, with autism spectrum, emotional problems or special educational needs. ( Poland 20, Croatia 60 Portugal 60, Romania 10 .) We strongly believe that this project will be about sharing ideas, gaining knowledge we have been looking for new ideas and solutions so much needed to respond to the needs of students who face learning problems as well as social and emotional ones. Our project is the place where all the students are supported to learn, contributed and participate in all aspects of school life together. Moreover, we are sure that teachers want to participate in various workshops, lectures and trainings to better understand their students. We believe that teachers and parents are crucial to the success of the inclusive approaches in education system. For this reason our group wants to create network to exchange ideas, share experience and support each other.
In response to our points of interest and the objectives mentioned above, three other school partners joined our project: Portuguese, Romanian and Croatian.
Cultural collaboration between schools aiming at developing social, linguistic and ICT competences brings an ongoing possibility to improve students` knowledge and abilities. Our motivation is to share experience and raise our quality of teaching and ability to solve modern educational problems of young Europeans such as enabling success for all the student community. Not only for those with the highest results, but opening the door for less and more gifted, to migrants and native citizens, to poor and rich, to students of different interests and talents in order to communicate and collaborate. This is the cue objective of our and our partners`. Every school partner has a great deal of experience involving methods that enable the link between motivating and supporting students of all backgrounds, personalities, abilities and skills in order to achieve success. Teachers in all partner schools will offer educational, social, psychological guidance in learning, they create and offer positive reinforcement, stimulate their motivation and engagement. All participant schools have experience in working with disabled students. Teachers will work for the advantage of each student by being supportive to students, offering a wide range of activities for all concentrating mostly on those with disadvantages in learning, offering counselling and the psychological help of professionals, organizing the school life with the engagement of parents, local, national and international community and institutions of cultural and educational character.
The project will last 2 years (4 semesters) in which we will deal with various products’ creation including lessons’ scripts, 4 scenarios of a play, online quizzes about minorities, brochure “Let me understand”, calendars, posters etc. On the other hand, we expect to master the knowledge about teaching, adjusting tests and marking disabled students, exchange good practice amongs partners, enrich the teaching store in new techniques, materials, ideas, technologies. Teachers will adapt and include innovative solutions and ideas used in Europe. The school administrative staff will obtain knowledge of international cooperation in terms of projects and agreements. What is the underlying goal, gaining knowledge among students about culture of minorities and also about Autism spectrum disorders and other disabilities. The project is built on equality, creativity, tolerance, cultural backgrounds and traditions of all European participants and the idea of getting rid of obstacles and communicative barriers. We want to change the way of perceving disability by students . The schools’ participation and engagement in the European project will promote these results inside and outside of the school long after the end of the project.
