Project Summary

The implementation of the “Safety first” project results from the needs of our school outposts. According to diagnoses carried out in schools, especially throughout the earlier project conducted by Polish and Spanish schools, we noticed the following problems among students aged between 10 and 12. Students have poor knowledge of the rules and techniques of first aid. They aren’t also aware of the threat to life and health. Furthermore, in case of an emergency they remain passive onlookers and they do not know what they should do. Besides, students often behave asocially and they aren’t willing to act selflessly. In addition they are not interested in first aid issues and they aren’t able to work as a team. During the KA1 project, school headmasters as well as Polish and Spanish teachers decided to achieve broader cooperation and proceed with the goals of the previous project by expanding our activities and involving students. They also decided to involve in the project other European Union schools which struggle with similar problems. Hence, the project “Safety first” will be carried out by Polish, Spanish, Greek and Italian schools. The most important goal of our project is to teach our younger students how to give first aid, instruct them to avoid danger and communicate in English in everyday life. We plan to familiarize students with proper first aid techniques in case of a life-threatening situations both at school and at home. We wish our students would be aware of the fact that quick response in an emergency is the most important factor. Thanks to the project, our students will know the techniques of first aid, they will be aware of their responsibility and, therefore, in case of a threat to life or health, they will not remain passive. We also intend, through our activities, to increase students’ awareness of the threats and ways of avoiding them in everyday life. Students will improve their English language skills because the project will be held in English. Apart from practical skills, students will also develop social competences. We intend to implement our project by stimulating our students to tear away from social media and the virtual world. We want to teach our students communicating with other people in a clear and precise way in the real world. We intend to teach them how to work properly in a group where each member is responsible for his task. In addition, we plan to develop their creativity as well as sports and artistic talents. The international cooperation will raise the profile of the problem in the eyes of students so that all students of partner schools will be aware of the fact that the issue of first aid has an international dimension and they can shape the future of this world. The implementation of the project will take place primarily at our school facilities, while foreign mobilities will complete the activities at the school levels. Mobilities will be focused on training of students and teachers by professional instructors. What’s more, mobilities will allow to achieve the mutual understanding of partners and using all acquired skills in practice. In order to fulfill these tasks at the same time in partner schools, we will use the eTwinning platform. This platform will enable partners to present the effects of the conducted activities. In addition, it will provide easy and quick contact and allow to exchange of necessary information. The students who are chosen for the project will be divided into task groups. Each group will get a specific task, which will be carried out within many months under the supervision of the group’s supervisor. The results of their work such as comics, instructional videos or field game will be updated on the eTwinning platform. It will be also presented during the summary of the project when we will organize the International First Aid Olympics for students from partner schools. Additionally, during the mobilities students will create a glossary of English words related to safety, hazards, accidents and first aid. We will share all the results of our activities on the websites of our schools and on the eTwinning platform. The specific nature of our project and measures provides for obtaining lasting tangible results. Students from each partner school will acquire specific knowledge and skills connected with first aid. They will also improve their English vocabulary in this field. During the implementation of the tasks, students will broaden their social competences. Due to the participation in the project students will become familiar with the work of emergency services, establish contacts, demonstrate commitment and creativity, broaden their knowledge and horizons, develop empathy and a sense of responsibility for their and others’ safety. It will affect the intellectual and social development of students in the long run, even after the end of the project.
