Project Summary

At present European countries are already having to face new challenges: sovereignty issues, widespread growing mistrust of policy makers and the spread of social and religious intolerance and prejudices. These challenges threaten the legitimacy of the European Union project and the peaceful coexistence of European countries. From inclusion and enlargement we are slipping into division and isolation and so into a situation of objective confusion and potential break-up. Faced with the divisions and uncertainties of the member states on crucial issues for the life of European peoples, it is fundamental for our young people to rediscover, support and apply the principles on which the European Pact was born and the treaties that have united nations and peoples for over six decades. It is vitally important to respond to these challenges by stimulating every useful action to achieve the political unity of the European Union, though with each nation retaining its national identity. It is necessary to disseminate the project of peace, freedom and democracy, to educate the new generations to a sense of common political and social responsibility, to the mutual understanding of European and international problems, to stimulate their participation and to encourage the development of common solutions where the values of diversity, cooperation and solidarity will be fully appreciated in order to achieve shared solutions. The starting point will be the cooperation between the “Marco Polo” linguistic high school and the “Aragon” high school (already consolidated with Etwinning and Erasmus projects), which will include the exchange of students from two European countries (20 from Italy and 20 from France) and then the opening towards other European citizens, the cultural comparison, acceptance of diversity and the sharing of European values. The students will be guided and accompanied by their teachers (4 for Italy and 4 for France).
This project will enable students to:
– understand the value of European citizenship and democratic participation, to shape Europe, to improve it through the means available that are not always known (bills for proposed legislation, initiatives, surveys, etc.) and make their voices heard in the policy-making spheres concerning our life and the defense of social rights;
– develop their own point of view comparing it with others through a comparison of school, social and cultural models;
– understand the point of view of others also in case of divergent opinions;
– reflect on the issues of social discrimination (bullying, cyberbullying, homophobia, racism, gender difference) favoring the integration and value of human respect;
– reflect on the need to promote digital wellbeing, online security, and fight the dissemination of fake news and other types of online disinformation.
– participate in debates and discuss problems in a broader historical, cultural and geographical context.
The discussion of these issues will be done in the two languages to enhance communication skills (Italian and French). Full immersion in partner countries will contribute to linguistic strengthening.
Various strategies will be used to offer different methodological approaches:
– theatre workshops to dramatize the themes dealt with sketches: these are highly motivating and educational activities that offer many advantages, both in the linguistic and artistic fields, they allow learning while having fun. Students develop very important attitudes and skills such as listening, attention, memorizing new words and linguistic structures and above all self-confidence overcoming shyness; this method encourages creativity, is able to instill enthusiasm and spirit of initiative in the learners, promotes cooperation and consequently their socialization;
– debate and brainstorming to develop critical sense and develop competences of oral interaction; reading of literary, historical and juridical passages, and video viewing with a final debate.
All activities (theater workshops, photos, images, etc.) will be documented with videos.
This partnership wants to create a real, concrete and dynamic bridge between two countries already partners in the creation of the Union. Through comparative culture and history, students can be guided to learn more about the European heritage. They will also learn to build a common identity, a Europe for all with the awareness that diversity is a wealth and not an obstacle to access a common European citizenship in a union where all citizens recognize each other’s rights.
Such a project will be able to produce long-term benefits with a partnership in the form of continuous exchange, collaborations and eTwinning projects on topics that meet the needs of young people.
