Project Summary
Background and objectives
SCHOOL 2020 was a three year Erasmus+ project that aimed to develop an innovative educational approach based on the expertise of the three participating schools:
– personalised learling (Finland)
– entrepreneurship (the Netherlands)
– applied sciences (Italy).
Students involved were 16-18 years old. The schools were all secondary schools at a pre-university level.
Three workshops for students were developed; skills developed in a previous workshop were transferred into the next workshop.
The workshops:
– TEAM 2020 (Finland, personalized learning): focused on self management skills
– INNO 2020 (Netherlands, entrepreneurship): focused on innovative entrepreneural skills
– LEO 2020 (Italy, applied sciences): focused on academic skills
Besides educational innovation, the project also aimed to reflect on two other aspects of educational environment: school management and school buildings. The latter was motivated by the fact that the Finish and the Dutch just were in the proces of building a new school. In this respect the schools wanted to get inspired by each other.
Proces
Every year started with a coordinators meeting to evaluate proceedings, set dates a.s.o. Each country was presented by the project coordinator and a teacher who would be in charge of the project the coming year. Subsequently in December or January 2 teachers from each country attended a meeting to develop a workshop (Development Meeting). This workshop was being tested and evaluated by students next April (Student Exchange).
The first year Finland was the hosting country, the second year the Netherlands en the third year Italy. In addition, the second year the Finish school hosted for the second time to reflect on management styles and school buildings. The third year, in June, the Dutch school hosted for the second time for further reflection on management styles and buildings. Students designed their favourite school. Finally the project was being evaluated and concluded.
Results

Impact and dissimination
1. The project inspired the schools to share and learn on an international scale. The workshops are going to be used in the schools or in international exchanges.
2. Schoolmanagers visited each other outside the project. The Finish principal visited the Dutch school twice to get informed about the Dutch system of working in teacher teams. He first did jobshadowing. The next year he visited the Dutch school again together with five colleague directors. The Dutch principal and the head facilitator visited the Finish school to get informed about the Finish management style and the new buidling. The new Finish school was highly inspiring for the Dutch head facilitator, who implemented Finish ideas into the Dutch building.
3. The workshops are being dissiminated in the Dutch Unesco school network and the Dutch Clobal Citizen Network.
4. As a result of this project an Italian student got interested in studying in the Netherlands. He is now studying international relations and law at the University of Groningen.
5. The three schools agreed on continuation of collaboration, by initiating new projects (with or without budget from the EU).
6. The Italian school is going to apply for the Italian Unesco school network. Both the Finish and the Dutch schools are already Unesco schools.
Long term
In the long term the participating schools will profit of this project, by using the workshops in international exchanges and in project weeks. In this way education and international exhanges will be brought to a higher level. The schools agreed on a long term collaboration in international projects.
