Project Summary

The ENGLISH EURO option disappeared in 2015. As we wanted to enable or pupil to practice English in real life situations and join a european project, a teacher in English from Frnace contacted a teacher in French in Denmark. Two exchanges have been organised since then. The pupils communicate in English.
In January 2020 pupils from Year 9 (France) and Class 8 (Danemark) schools started writing to each other. French students and Danish students have been exchanging via email/ social networks in French and English. The first goal is to connect a European school group around issues related to climate change and to sensitize them to citizenship through actions related to themes studied in class, meetings with professionals and virtual and physical exchanges. Some students from both schools will take part to the “Schoolmates: let’s become euro citizens!” class , a weekly class where the topics discussed in class will be explored and dealt differently.
The 10 Year pupils from the general teaching and the 10 Year pupils from the General and Vocational Education Section in France (160 students) in France, the pupils in Class 8 ( 62 pupils) and those from FOENIX (Department for the Disabled) (80 pupils) in Denmark are concerned by the project. We have chosen a progression linked to the teachings studied the previous 3 years of high school and develop the knowlegdes of the last year of high school. There will be three steps. First, there will be a phase with the theme “knowing oneself and one’s school”. In French and Danish classes, students will study autobiographical texts. In English, we will talk about “Biopics” and selfies. In Social Studies, the two school systems will be compared. The pupils will write a charter on the “perfect high school” (in French and Danish then in English on Twinspace). The expected skills will be writing expression. Then, we will introduce the theme “my city, my region” with a study on biodiversity and local endangered species. Finally, the theme “my country, my Europe” will be based on notions of citizenship and environment. In sciences classes, the theme “human responsibility” in health and environment will be studied . Students will deal with major societal issues. They will work alone when making research on the topics and they will present a file on the behaviours to adopt in front of the dangers linked to the impacts of human activities. In English and Geography, speeches about the Environment by famous people will be heard and discussed. A French pupil and a Danish one will present in pair a “video-speech” to express the motivations and give recommendations to save the planet. Their oral qualities and digital skills will be assessed. In sciences, pupils will study the sound and its characteristics, knowledge they can use during the “web radio” club. Digital skills will be required. We want to encourage initiative, group work and make pupils aware of the changing climate on a european scale. Pupil will often work in pair or group (when interviewing heads of organzations, school staff), take part in specific actions linked to citizenship ( “The Day of Disability Awareness in Callot, involvement during the Children’s Right Day in Rosengaardskolen). They will be actors : they will take pictures and make a written account of these actions. All this work will be put on Twinspace. During the mobility, the pupils will increase their autonomy by living another way of life, by learning to share, by exchanging. All these experiences will make pupils more altruistic, more tolerant and more open to other cultures. The final goal is to lead pupils to a membership in an ecocitizenship regardless of their nationality.
