Project Summary

This project is mainly about two schools learning from one another, on one hand Akureyri Junior College and on the other hand Convitto Nazionale “Paolo Diacono”. They are schools, that in many ways have a lot in common, both have students from other areas of the country and are boarding schools, both have similar focus for their studies and are preparing students for further studies. The background of the two schools is in many ways similar, which was the main reason for the choice of partners. The plan is to send three members of staff from each school to visit and get to know more about the others. The staff that will participate are the principals and international coordinators of both schools as well as someone with IT experience.

There are some focal point:
– international cooperation, the Italian school has more experience and even a whole different experience since they are receiving students and teachers who come and spend some time there as teachers or students. Akureyri Junior College is even considering sending teachers and/or students there.
-writing a new curriculum, how to engage students, how to get them more active
-the integration of new technologies applied to knowledge process (which is also related to getting the students more involved and more active)
– developing language teaching and the uses for foreign languages in a global world

The objectives are to learn from each others experiences in these fields as it is important to be constantly aware of new ways to develop the teaching methods if you want to be up to date and want to attract new students. Hopefully both schools will get new ideas to work with, find out more about each others as to see the possibilities for further cooperation and becoming more able to manage projects as well. That is perhaps the main benefit we see, at least for Akureyri Junior College, because it is important to use the knowledge that others have to become more successful, and today it is a big factor not only to be one of the top schools locally, but also internationally, and that is only attainable by learning from others.
