Project Summary
In the project “Self-organized lupine production and processing” we – 24 young people from 4 European countries (Germany, Netherlands, Romania, Spain) – want to grow lupine and process it. All the involved groups have close links to agriculture and a commitment to vegetarian or vegan food.
Lupine can be used to substitute soy in a broad variety of uses, whether it is lupine drinks, tofu or spreads. Lupine has low soil requirements and is suitable for human consumption, but hardly used. We want to change that.
By immersing ourselves in lupine and its applications we want to take first steps into the direction of self employment. On the one hand we want to find strategies for marketing our own products. On the other hand we want to inspire ourselves and others to take steps towards animal and environmental friendly as well as socially just entrepreneurship.
Next to the topic of lupine, social aspects play an important role in this project. Our goal is to have a good group process during our year long project. We therefore place emphasis on human interactions. We want to take our feelings and capacities into consideration and learn methods how to react to and hopefully solve conflicts. We want to try to be aware of our positioning in society and to decrease our prejudices. Next to a few external inputs on the topics of consensus and group decision finding processes, conflict management, and didactic methods (such as: How to prepare a workshop/ event) we mostly want to use our time to learn from each other. We want to empower ourselves to teach our own classes.
In order to organize all of this, we want to hold three international meetings. The first meeting serves as a meeting place, so that all the groups get to know each other better and to further our project goals. Important part of this meeting on the conceptual basis of this project is, that the German organizing group will not continue to hold a central place in the further organization, but that all groups participate actively in the realization of the project.
During the summer we are planning to hold a delegate meeting, which is intended for the preparation of the big meeting in November 2018. The delegates are supposed to serve as multiplicands in their groups and learn about group techniques and workshop preparation tools into their own groups.
In between meetings the groups stay in touch via different online tools, phone conferences and more, as well as grow and harvest lupine on their lands, research and prepare.
The third meeting is the central meeting of this project. In this meeting the harvested lupine will be processed into a variety of tasty products. Next to the time to experiment and practice in the kitchen, we want to have a variety of self-organized workshops and seminars.
The results of our project will be available as a variety of lupine products, that can be tasted on events. The recipes and results of our project will be made available to the public on a home page.
