Project Summary
This project was the result of the partner schools’ wish to make students aware of cultural differences and common ground within the EU in an innovative and fascinating way by using VR and AR and various online tools and other forms of media. These enhance the students’ as well as the teachers’ media and language competences and allow teachers to integrate new teaching methods in classroom teaching. The topics economy, tourism, arts and culture, education, history, industries and transport and the institutions of the EU dealt with in this project and which were the basis for the use of the apps and tools considered the various school types and locations of the schools involved. Basically, about 100 students aged between 14 and 19 years and 13 teachers were actively involved in this project. Yet, during the project meetings the whole hosting school, parents, representatives of the hosting community as well as various print or other media took part in this project directly or indirectly.
By extensive use of VR- and AR-apps, various online (sharing) tools as well as different forms of media such as film, photo diary, presentations, photo slide shows etc. before, during and after the 3 meetings on-site and the one virtual meeting as replacement for the meeting in Estonia that had been canceled due to the pandemic the students looked into the mentioned topics and apps and tools in detail and also found out more about the participating schools’ home countries’ arts, culture and history and the chances and opportunities the EU can offer young people. The results were published on Twinspace, the project’s website, the project’s padlet, the schools’ websites and the correspondent social media. The insights and experiences gained by all participants especially with regard to the use of all apps and tools used during the project, the guide with explanations, which was produced during this project, and the check list for online project meetings will make it easy for the teachers of the partner schools and persons interested to apply them effectively and in an interesting way in their lessons in the future.
