Project Summary
Our project SEE and Share (Senior Exchange to Promote Erasmus+ and Share Europe’s Values) is a partnership of civil society organisations in 5 countries in Europe: Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and North Macedonia. I will foster heritage interpretation that enables citizens to give European heritage a deeper meaning, will make Earsmus+ program known among senior citizens through direct participations thus conributing to senior citizens engagement in sharing European values. Erasmus + and previous LLL program have given opportunities to millions of students and young people to study and travel throughout Europe, creating a new generation of Europeans open to different cultures and way of living. Seniors have been less involved in European transnational projects thus loosing the historical memory and lessions learned from the past in building European identity. Our project will target young and senior citizens from different countries in Europe to encourage intercultural and intergenerational dialogue, education and learning.
The SEE and Share project targets two groups: younger people of age 18 -30, and adults 55+
The main objective of the project is to foster intergenerational dialogue on the common European values and strengthen European identity among all citizens and generations. The specific objectives of the project are:
– increase knowledge about EU programs and in particular Erasmus+ and the opportunities it provides to citizens of all ages and backgrounds
– interprete European cultural heritage (world-famous as well as less notable sites that can symbolise European development; historical movements and achievements that embrace European countries) by providing opportunities to seniors and youth to exchange experiences in joint initiatives
– share Europe’s values, by reflecting the way that people lived in the past and live in the present.
By raising awareness of European core values such as democratic rule, freedom of speech, the independence of the judicial system and the right to privacy, heritage interpretation by younger generations and seniors can help to face some of the most critical challenges Europe has to meet. Citizens will take ownership of Europe if they acknowledge the rise of these values as part of their own heritage. Experiencing heritage phenomena first hand offers the best setting for thinking about doing so. The only way to do it is transnationally.
After the completion of the SEE and Share project the results will be available to stakeholders and ordinary citizens, not directly involved in activities, through the open access to project outputs. Project outputs will be available through a digital platform of the project and will include a digital library of thematic routes that interpret the landscape of surroundings of places where partners are based. The routes will consist spots with interpretive panels that creatively and innovatively interpret the cultural and natural heritage of the place. The value of these routes lies in the fact that places of cultural, historic, or natural interest are interpreted by “non-expert” citizens of different ages who add their own interpretation. Nowadays internet provides easy access to data and facts about historical places but not an interpretation of their role on the lives of local communities and the links with the culture of other people in Europe. Our project will give voice of young and senior people interpret what they consider important landmarks in their cities.
SEE and Share digital platform, media and social network reflecting the project will reach more than 500 000 European citizens in their everyday life to remind of Europe’s common cultural heritage and values.
