Project Summary

The STEP (Share, Test, Exchange, Practise) project gathered 6 secondary schoold of agriculture from 5 European countries (Luxembourg, Poland, Netherlands, Germany and France) towards one objective : allowing students aged 16 to 20, studying in technological or vocational trainings specialised in agriculture, to study, exchange and produce technical and vocational projects according to their studies, thus enabling them to improve transferable skills.

During the first year, the work focused on the design and landscaping of a large empty concrete pond, located on the site of one of the French schools, into a recreation space. The pupils worked, according to their skills (in Landscaping, Horticulture, Floristry, Forestry, Production, Environment…) on the theoretical aspects, exchanged on the results of their work, and collectively finalised the production by arranging the pool, in practise, on site, in April 2017 (participants : 86 pupils + 20 staff). All this work gave the pupils a real project methodology, allowing them to visualise all its steps. The landscaped pool is now being used by all the pupils of the school during their free time, most of the pupils being boarders.

At the beginning of the second year, a Luxembourgish teacher trained some teachers from the partner schools to create video tutorials, a pedagogical method used in his school. The participants then used this methodoogy with their own pupils to create tutorials about technical subjects taught in their institutes. With this new skill, the pupils from each delegation met in Luxembourg in May 2018 (participants : 76 pupils + 20 staff) to create together tutorials on technical topics or on wood constructions implemented during Year 1. This work has taught pupils to take some distance with a technical topic and to explain it in a both simple and organised way, using ICTs.

All the activities proposed during the European meetings gathering pupils from all the partner schools (1 week in April 2017 and 1 week in May 2018) were done in multinational teams (samll groups with at least 1 representative of each partner) in order to enable the best collaboration and communication between the participants.

The pupils who participated in the project are often locked up in their own representations. They have had the opportunity to develop a real professional openness. The project has also developped their curiosity on the different methods, initiatives and culture of the partners. Also, the common work made by pupils from different countries, schools and trainings has allowed all to know better the partner school systems in agriculture. Eventually, the communication with European peers has enabled all the participants to improve their skills in foreign languages (English, French, German) and their skills in using ICTs.
