Project Summary
“Small steps to a great goal – what can I do for Earth?” is a project of international cooperation, whose main goal is to increase the level of responsibility for the natural environment among students from partner schools, and as a consequence, the conscious involvement of young people between 10 and 15 years of age from schools in Garwolin, Slatina, Radauti, Mersin and Guimarães in international and intercultural dialogue on for the environment and climate, and to prevent its changes.
To encourage and engage students in social dialogue, raise awareness of their right to a clean environment and strengthen their sense of unity, being part of the European community while maintaining respect for local values and national culture, we created this project as a tool to encourage young Europeans to international and intercultural dialogue. The aim of the project is to develop and introduce innovative solutions in working with students, prepare them for conscious planning of the educational path, professional choice and support in the process of acquiring and improving basic skills and key competences.
We assume that thanks to the project, students will be more interested in environmental and climate issues, tolerance for other cultures, motivation to learn, teach and train, and teachers’ competence in modern, active teaching methods will develop. Activities envisaged in the project will concern pupils and teachers as well as other school employees. Thanks to the exchange of staff experience during project working meetings and dissemination of good practices, participants will reduce educational differences and will have the opportunity to introduce innovative forms and teaching methods in their schools. Therefore, the project meets the needs of students, the local labor market, but also refers to the requirements of the teaching staff. It improves the quality and effectiveness of education, which directly affects the quality of school work. Thanks to the planned trainings that serve the professional development of teachers involved in the project, innovative solutions will appear in schools in various parts of Europe. The implementation of the project will allow consolidating the network of contacts with teachers in other EU countries and launching new projects for students. In addition, participants will improve skills related to the efficient operation of modern tools of the digital age, which will affect the quality of work of the facilities. This will help us achieve another project goal, which is to promote the school at local, regional and international level. The participants, apart from students, include teaching staff and other school staff, parents, representatives of the local community and all other people interested in the project. The planned activities are local and international. During local activities, participants will prepare films, presentations, conduct workshops and competitions, create “recycling zones” and “green zones”. On the other hand, international events will be used to present materials, film screenings, workshops and cross-border projects, discussion panels, national evenings, meetings and joint field games. We also plan to create eTwinning projects. The methods used during project implementation are: direct participation; individual and group work; brainstorm; discussion; workshops; show, presentation; Reality Pedagogy & Cooperative Learning.
Results – material products: films and presentations; school „recycling zones” and „green zones”; scenarios for ecological activities, tour programs; artistic creations – graffiti, DVDs and CDs; information materials; photos, website, blog, project forum; design materials; developed paths and space for communication between project partners.
Intangible results: knowledge and experience acquired by project participants during the implementation of project activities in the field of environmental and climate issues in European countries and the world; better skills in using modern ICT tools; enhanced professional competences of the teaching staff; improving communication skills in a foreign language; increasing the level of awareness of being a citizen of a united Europe; exchange of experience and good practices, as well as establishment of international partnerships.
The effects and results of the project will have a long-term impact on participants, parents, local, regional and international environment. We will put them in the libraries of partner schools, on YouTube, the project website, in online resources for teachers, in local, regional and social media, as well as in project information and promotional materials. The results and tools created as part of the project will be available to a wide range of interested parties, and their easy modification will allow all stakeholders to adapt them to individual needs and use them in a wide range.
