Project Summary
Our project called SOUND IN BODY, SOUND IN MIND is conducted by six elementary and/or middle schools from the Czech Republic, Finland, Croatia, Germany, Slovenia and Lithuania and aims at pupils aged 12-16. It focuses on physical, mental, emotional and social health of teenagers. Our aim is to show the students that a healthy lifestyle consists of a variety of aspects – not only doing exercises but also a healthy diet, positive thinking, good interpersonal relationships and that an active approach is crucial for reaching the goal of being a person of good physical and mental health in a long-term perspective. We also want to offer them intercultural experience with each partner country/town and school. The project has a theoretical and practical part. Within the first part students will research and present their results on various topics related to a healthy lifestyle (e.g. athletic mobility, healthy relations, mindfulness, wellbeing, nutrition, the use of mobile phones and social media), while the second part focuses on learning by doing, enabling students to exchange their ideas, gaining new knowledge and trying various activities focusing on health.
The E-Twinning platform will be one of the tools used in the interaction between schools and teachers. Apart from online cooperation, the participants will get the chance to meet each other during 6 project meetings – each one hosted by one of the partner schools and consisting of 5 working days filled with various project activities and 2 days for travelling (arrival and departure). We are determined to deal with the budget provided by the EU very wisely to save up money in order to enable as many pupils and teachers to participate in the meetings as possible. Our plan counts with approximately 4-6 students plus 2 teachers per school and meeting. English is the main language of our project.
During the project students will take part in various activities such as teambuilding, sport-oriented tasks (hiking trips at each project meeting, winter outdoor activities, cycling, beach voleyball, yoga, pilates etc.), music and dance workshops (rehearsing a joint performance, flash mob, folk and modern dances), easy science lab activities and experiments (biology, chemistry, physics), cooking and preparing healthy snacks (superfoods, balanced diet). Other activities will include guided tours to places of special value e.g. several UNESCO World Heritage Sites (Lednice chateau, Suonmenlina Sea Fortress, Cologne cathedral, the Škocjanske caves + a saltern, Deutsches Sport und Olympia Museum, the Green lakes). Thus the methods used in the project include team work, group work, pair work, presentations, discussions, lessons, artistic events (Erasmus+ evenings at each project meeting), sport activities, surveys and analyses and are all based on the pricipals of “experimental learning” or – in other words – “learning by doing”.
The main results expected to be achieved through the project can be divided into two groups. The first one being closely connected with all the participants and the other one focusing on more widespread effects. First and foremost we expect that after having participated in our project the participants will be aware of the broad meaning of the word “health” and a “healthy lifestyle” and also about the necessity of acting actively and constantly on the way to be a healthy person. We want to achieve it with positive examples and encouraging activities that are exciting and enjoyable rather than deterrent lectures presented in a frontal way.
As to more widespread effects we are sure that the project participants will contribute in a positive way to local communities which will be visited during the exchange meetings. Not only students but also teachers will get the chance to learn about modern educational methods, approaches and systems. The teachers will also have the opportunity to broaden their horizons and compare their experience among each other when discussing the different ways of dealing with “health education” at respective partner schools. Project management skills will be also of great importance as the involvement of various people will be necessary in order to carry out the project. Local authorities and parents will be an important part of the project implementation as their help in organizing the activities will be vital. The beneficent will also be the whole school communities as even the pupils not directly involved in the project will see its positive outcomes.
