Project Summary

The method of the language animation has become an important element of the pedagogy of intercultural meetings. It allows the participants to discover in a playful way a foreign language and culture without any language competences, to overcome the fear of foreign languages, to support natural communication skills and to arouse the curiosity of the unknown group. Apart from that, this learning method is very democratic – the learning and teaching person switch their roles in tandems or tridems. The participants learn, first of all, on the basis of their own motivation.

During the last few years very good publications and manuals/guidebooks with different methods were published especially around the German-French Youth Office, the Polish-German Youth Office and other bilateral coordination offices for youth exchanges. Meanwhile, the fact of applying the methods of language animation has become a standard everyday element of meetings for young people and trainings in the frame of Erasmus+ projects.

People use these methods more and more often even outside of intercultural meetings, in formal frames at schools as well as in national nonformal plurilingual language schools.

Unfortunately, there are very few training opportunities to learn this important method so that many pedagogues have to rely only on the written materials. As trainers of language animation, we are conscious, from our own experience, that the complexity of this method cannot be sufficiently explained in that way. That is also why this method might be often incorrectly used.

This learning partnership would like to create a video portal where the most important methods and the theoretical basis of the language animation will be explained in English, French, Polish and German. Examples of this method will be filmed during international meetings of young people so that they will show a practical and realistic situation of use. People working in this field will be able to call up these materials and apply these examples in their own educational work.

The aim is to create a Europe-wide database which will last longer than this learning partnership and will be potentially able to be expanded by another video methods, even in other languages. We would like to create a free accessible database from active leaders for active leaders which will be constantly developed.
