The platform is tailored to the needs of older learners: The user interface is easy to use. In the courses, a strong focus is set on repetition. The platform offers a course programme for learning the languages English, German, Turkish, Polish, Romanian and Greek.
During the project period of this Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership the platform was tested and evaluated by older language learners and there input was used to improve it furthermore.
The five partner organizations want to support the STARLEARN platform also after the end of this Strategic Partnership Project in the future, aiming to add language courses and to find more organizations which want to participate in this project.
In the Project Consortium of this Strategic Partnership Project these five organizations were participating:
From Austria (coordinating organization): The Institute for Applied Language Integration Ottakring (IASIO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to meet the challenges of different languages and cultures in Europe of the 21st century by creating solutions based on information technology. The Institute’s main fields of activity are multilingual IT applications, cultural acceptance of software, as well as efficient e-learning systems for foreign languages. The Institute wants multilingualism and cultural acceptance to become a benefit of IT applications.
From Poland: Foundation “Pro Scientia Publica” was founded in 2010 by Aleksander Kobylarek (assistant professor in the Department of Education of the University of Wrocław) and Aneta Kobylarek. Its main aim is the support of self-development of young academics (pre- and post-graduate students) and the support of various educational initiatives which strive to create a bond of cooperation between circles, whose mission is scholarly work and popularization of science: between the masters and apprentices of the society of knowledge, graduates undertaking their first work in the field of adult education and the headmasters and instructors of educational projects, seniors of the Universities of Third Age and students – trainees.
From Romania: Dimitrie Cantemir Foundation is an NGO founded in 1996 having as objects of activity learning, culture, education. It is a regional important organization based in Galati, near the Danube. The city has over 200,000 inhabitants. Dimitrie Cantemir Foundation is an accredited center for organizing courses for completing secondary education and other educational courses. Dimitrie Cantemir Foundation developed different types of programs focused on different areas of expertise with a strong focus on language learning.
From Greece: The Unión Hispano-Helena de Lengua y Cultura was founded in 2013. The Unión Hispanohelena de Lengua y Cultura is set up as a registered association. Its registered office is located in Thessaloniki. It currently consists of 110 members. The Unión Hispanohelena de Lengua y Cultura is a non-profit organization dedicated to unite languages and cultures in Europe of the 21st century by creating educational and cultural events. The Unión Hispanohelena de Lengua y Cultura main fields of activity are multilingual environments, cultural acceptance and integration, as well as assessment on teaching foreign languages.
From Turkey: Nazhayat is an association founded to create a bridge among generations and cultures. A very recently created association founded by the leadership of teachers working at a governmental institution. Nazhayat aims to bring adults back to life after retirement, over the age of fifty. We are also a course provider for teenagers and adults. Our aims are to adopt mostly the retired, integrating them back into society again to get them active and help them in the process of active aging. To do this we are offering them opportunities in various activities. Nazhayat focuses – beside other fields – strongly in language education.
The idea of the project was to bring in language education expertise from different organizations which are experienced in this field. Together with the IT competence of the coordinating organization we adapted an existing e-learning software to create the new STARLEARN platform.
We documented all project activities, project results, project meetings on our project website. Moreover, we also published news and articles about the project thereon. The project website is available at this address:
