Project Summary
This project , Stealing Our Future: How Can We Reduce Our Carbon Footprint? (SOF) is formed by schools in five different countries: Turkey AVCILAR BIL COLLEGE, Italy, I.T: Giordano-Striano, Germany, August-Ruf Bildungszentrum, Portugal, Escola Secundária Campos de Melo, Covilha, and Spain, Ins. Joaquim Rubió I Ors, being the last the coordinator of the project. Its main objective is related to environmental and climate goal as it has been design to make students aware of the importance of our impact in the environment and how we can reduce it taking as a starting point our closer surroundings: our schools. Other important objectives are to make students competent in a European context and to apply solutions to everyday problems. Other secondary objectives are the following: to make students feel more attached to their schools through European-wide activities and to overcome disadvantages to travel and interact with peers abroad.
There are a wide range of topics covered as interdisciplinarity has been a must at designing this project; however, the most important topics covered are the following: environment and climate change, energy and resources and ICT.
Regarding participants, there are 300 participants from the five participating countries and all the teachers from those schools, with special involvement from 25 of those. We also expect families and local authorities and local media to take an active part in the project in social gatherings and in the dissemination of the results of our project. A special care will be devoted to those students with either economical or educational problems so every student can benefit from our project.
All the activities have been designed and planned having in mind two aspects: the involvement of all the school community from the participating countries and the LTTA where the final products will be presented to the rest of the participants. They are task-based and there is a great importance of the linguistic component, both at carrying it out and presenting it. Moreover, we have taken into account the possible different intelligences of our students and their talents and they are also ‘low floor high ceiling activities’, in this way all the students can perform the tasks according to their level. Another crucial aspect of the activities is that they all involve a high level of collaboration to prepare our students for further education and for an active participation in adult life.
In relation to the expected result, we hope to make an impact results in our educative communities, we presuppose our students will be more conscious about our impact and environment and about the ways we can reduce our impact in it. Another important result is related to the dissemination of the project; speeches by the participants are held in primary schools to share our results and we also expect the participating teachers to the be involved in a training cascade plan to share their experience in this project among teachers both in the same school and other school. We also expect our students to be more competent at the end regarding linguistic, social and ICT skills as all the activities involved a great amount of those skills. Another crucial expected result in our student is the involvement of underprivileged students in the activities and actions taken. The involvement and opening of our schools to the community life is also pursued by means of social gathering with the social forces of our communities, visits to important landmarks and associations that work in fields related to our project. Finally, at a more personal level, we expect to create personal bound which will flourish in subsequent eTwinning projects.
