Project Summary

Making Europe’s wealthy cultural heritage accessible and promoting native-language and foreign-language reading from primary school to high school is the dual ambition of this project.

These objectives will be achieved through various presentations and discovery activities. Indeed, students from the 3 partner countries belonging to different cultures, socio-economic backgrounds and ages will discover the European cultural heritage with all the activities we have entitled “I discover my Europe”, which includes the creations of an online quiz, a collaborative wall presenting the celebrations and traditions of our countries, a board game like the ‘Trivial Pursuit’, and an interactive map of stereotypes. Then they will reinvest this knowledge through a collaborative writing of a “European tale where you are the hero” in 3 languages that will include elements from all the literary cultures of the students participating in the project, whether they are Europeans or from immigration from a non-member country. We want to make students aware of the diversity of their heritage, place them in a real dialogue between the partners, fight all kinds of discrimination, promote the values of tolerance, kindness, and mutual assistance betwen privileged students towards the more fragile because of their age, their socio-economic or cultural backgrounds. It will be about ensuring a better learning and guaranteeing everyone a good start in education, a knowledge of life and studies in the partner countries, an understanding of their own culture, awakening their interest for other countries, motivating them in their studies and to learn a foreign language. This European tale will be the first final result of the project and will be disseminated through various channels such as the public Twinspace, libraries, social networks, websites and educational blogs of institutions, press, CDI institutions, etc.
On the other hand, starting from the observation that our students spend more and more time on the Internet, from an early age, spending less and less time reading, and use automatic translators when doing some research in a foreign language, we wanted to know how to improve and develop reading practices in the mother tongue and foreign languages from kindergarten to high school while the vocabulary of students has become poorer, and the gaps are widening in reading between good and bad students, often at the expense of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. This project, which concerns students from kindergarten to high school, aims to exchange, compare and observe educational practices in reading in 3 European countries and at different ages, with the aim of designing and testing new educational methods. The publication of an educational toolbox – result of the work done by the project team during the two years – will be the final result of this research and experimentation around the theme that we will be pleased to share with our peers and other education professionals via the educational project websites and blogs, the communication channels of the institutions (DAREIC, inspectorate, Erasmus + agency, Canopé networks, etc.), the teaching communities on social networks, and the specialized press.
