Project Summary
Context and background
CSG Prins Maurits participates as a christian school in an open, changing society. That society is dynamic, international and intercultural. Global forces as globalisation strenghten natioal effecs, both cultural unity as cultural heterogenity. The European Union is in a crucial phase. The PM want (together with partnerschools) to contribute on good, sustainable (European) citizenship through a program of cultural awareness. For that, students deepen themselves in their own, common history. What they learn from history, can they use as view at the future. Only in this way, valuable traditions will stay, adapted to new contexts. The Erasmus+program can support the schools, to reach these ambitions.
Objectives
This project pursues different goals, from European aims (social integration, citizenship, cultural awareness), aims belonging to national priorities, visions of schools who participate and students competences. This shall result in a powerful, coherent learning environment.
Participants
Totally there are 31 participants: 24 students (8 from each school) and 6 teachers (2 from each school) during the exchanges and one project-coordinator. The time between exchanges, participants shall work together in a digital environment and being coached through teachers. Other partners shall involved to the project at those moments. Mrs. Knulst, co-principal of the Prins Maurits, is the supervisor.
Activities
The project consists of three types activities:
Training: at the start of the project, there is a Staff Training, in wich appointments are be made, a digital environment will be created and common guidelines for the project will be determined.
Teaching: the appointments and guidelines will be worked out in practical tasks and excercises. Students shall be instruct and coached from the beginning to the end of the project. In that way, qualitiy requirements can be guarded.
Learning: those activities are concentrated in three exchanges; in the periodes between the exchanges, students work together in a digital environment (Google Classroom for example) and prepare themselves for the next exchange. All tasks are bases on the theme ‘European Year of Cultural Heritage’ with a special focus on cultural minorities and their position and contribution.
Methodology
An important part of the tasks, is based on the ideas of adaptive education. Students have clear frameworks, where they in their own tempo / time work on the end product. The methodology is adapted to the different interests and contexts of the groups.
Results
The final product is a summary of all the experiences of the participants / students, with the focus on the results of research. It contains a visual, quantified reproduction or/and visualisation of the survey about imaging the comprehensive theme ‘European Year of Cultural Heritage’. The final product is a website or book, products who can be consulted sustainable in the future. This information can be used for both international activities as contribute to the curriculum of the (partner)schools.
Impact
Because the project appeals to cognitive capacities of students, but mostly emotional and empathetic skills, there will be a mindchanging. The imaging and prejudices about each other, different cultures, habits and views, Europe and so on, will be determined at the start, during the project and at the end. Students get new opinions about themselves and the their own learning process. The change of their mindset will influence them sustainable and supports them in their role as culture conscious, critical and balanced civilian of Europe in the future.
