Project Summary
The global objective of the project was to develop the learning autonomy of primary-school students through innovative and applied transdisciplinary approaches to specific education contents in order to consolidate the basic skills of math, science and literacy, as well as foreign language communication competency. The project started its delineation from an analysis of Romanian National Evaluation for 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th-grade students, released by the National Centre for Evaluation and Testing (2015) showing that students didn’t applied and analyzed basic information acquired during their educational activities. Every year the analysis showed similar results which indicated a lack of teaching effectiveness. The need of the project was that of educational contents to be adequate for developing and instilling students with the capacity of learning autonomously and use the information and their knowledge in new contexts or in correlation. Similar situations were encountered in the partner countries: Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania, Turkey, and UK. After the withdrawal of UK and redistribution of tasks and activities, the project started implementing their activities and started sharing best practices in teaching effectiveness with a focus on student learning autonomy and by integrating non-formal activities in multicultural and transversal approach of the educational contents studied by pupils throughout the primary school. Through its activities, the partners of the consortium involved students in the learning process, increasing their motivation and attention towards exploration and understanding of certain contents. All primary teachers from the 5 countries were equipped with non-formal tools and teaching methods that made students be more involved in learning by sharing experiences and exchanging best practices during the four learning, teaching and training activities, and even during the four transnational projects meetings. The acquired experience and ways of teaching brought more attractiveness of educational content and made students more confident in their learning autonomy. This partnership was carefully selected according to their background, experience, skills and expertise and during the implementation of the project’s activities the partners cooperated for the benefit of the project and of the final beneficiaries, the students. Each partner shared its own experience and learnt from the others as well, and sat up a common framework of good practices to be used worldwide since it is available for free. The schools enriched themselves and became stronger in terms of involvement of the community and in terms of visibility and educational offer, the teachers acquired more experience and reached a higher level of professionalization. The project attracted more organizations during the implementation and the target group of indirect beneficiaries and stakeholders remained the same even after the consortium lost a partner. Everyone was involved in the activities organized and the majority will remain also after the completion of the project, to ensure dissemination on the project’s results, multiplication and even replication in other schools of the city/country. The activity called “The Science Festival” will ensure the sustainability of the project, along The Sustainable Greenhouse and The Dexter Laboratory. The expected results were reached and the project created effective tools and materials for upgraded educational content: more attractive and better prepared for the dominant intelligence of the student. Therefore, by applying the schedule and the specific procedures and by developing successfully the planned activities (4 short-term staff training events, including 1 training session, 3 short-term staff events – job shadowing type and 1 short-term exchange of groups of pupils), the project team obtained several quantitative results in terms of materials or products to be used by direct and indirect beneficiaries during and after the completion of the project, and also of qualitative expected results in terms of acquiring and developing basic skills in Maths, Sciences and Literacy, combating underachievement or failure education, acquiring and applying non-formal methods/tools in the teaching-learning activities. The impact of the project was indicated by several indicators: an increased support and involvement of family members in school life, other local stakeholders: local authorities, companies, parents’ associations, participants and participating organizations were promoted locally, nationally, at European level. The impact of the project on participating organizations, direct and indirect beneficiaries was total: improvement of school climate, promotion on all channels and in the European environment, reinforcement of the relationships between pupils and teachers, a better teamwork between departments, development of autonomy and broadening students, teachers and parents’ horizons.
