Project Summary

It is common to hear that water is essential to life, but do we really know what it is and how important is it to the prosperity of life? Our project Surfing water waves has didactic and educational goals. The first aims is to encourage students to deepen their knowledge of water and the latter, considering that water metaphorically implies the idea of freedom beyond geographical boundaries, convey the image of the unity of Europe. And being an Erasmus project integrates this unit.
The partners involved in the project come from four European countries: France (Marignane), Italy (Padua), Poland (Jelcz-Laskowice) and Spain (Almendralejo).
These are high schools (technical and vocational institutes) located in developed agricultural areas where water has always been a source of life of the highest importance. It is essential that students know this and learn to respect it for its invaluable value. Students will learn that water quality varies considerably in Europe, with many regions facing severe shortages. This project combines didactic objectives and educational objectives directly in a common European context and through cooperative learning methodologies. Among other things, we want to develop students’ critical thinking and civic behavior. Thus, they will certainly come out of the usual bad of wasting water.
Students will be encouraged to look at water from different angles: this will allow them to develop their basic skills or much more. In addition, the realization of the activities requires a high level of international cooperation between the students of the four countries, which makes them proud to work for a common goal and live directly the idea of European citizenship. So, they will examine water’s properties, search for its sources and learn to compare different types of water; therefore, they will become familiar with different aquatic habitats and aquatic ecosystems; they can appreciate how important the presence of rivers, seas and lakes is for life, by examining their impact on social life, especially in the geographic areas from which they come. Students will explore the historical, artistic and economic aspects of water. There are also a large number of sports involving water and students will be involved in their identification. The project involves a multi-focal approach that allows students to reconsider their previous knowledge of water and reevaluate them with new knowledge. and various information acquired. The project allows them to improve their skills in cooperation, entrepreneurial planning and strategic planning, as well as to broaden their spirit. In particular, by performing the tasks before and during the international meetings, the students will use their co-operative skills, their communication skills in a foreign language, their decision-making skills, their teamwork strategies. Finally, the tasks being carried out using various software, computer tools and multimedia digital skills of students and supervisors can only improve.
At the school level, this project is the result of previous cooperation and opens the door to others to create a large European canvas.
