Project Summary

As our school has been looking for improvement of our exchange program by working really together on a topic, we are very happy to have found a school in Iceland that’s willing to start this adventure with us. We have organised a lot of students exchanges but never using Erasmus+. Now with the experience of the school in Iceland we hope to be able to organise an exchange with a deeper learning impact.
Lately the climateproblems have become an important topic in the politic and economic agenda of the Netherlands. Students all over the country call out for climate measures and a more sustainable way of living. With this project we want to create awareness of the ecological footprint we leave behind and what young people could do to participate in a better environment.
They can compare both countries in the kind of measures taken nationwide but also in the kind of efforts taken personalwise(now and in the future). Learning from the goodpractices in both countries and eachother. Questions like: What do we eat and why? what do we wear and why? How do we move, and why? What do we buy and why? what kind of resources do we use, and why? etc. will be discussed, examinated and experienced both in Holland as in Iceland. Our main aim is to find out what the differences are between the two countries concerning these topics, what could be improved, how we can learn from eachother and most important what the students could do to contribute to a more sustainable world.
We would like the students to adopt one or two of the topics/questions mentionned above and work on that specific topic in couples (one dutch, one icelander) during the whole project. At the end of the project they will present and share their researches, experiences and ideas concerning the choosen topic and try to stimulate the rest of the groupe to join them.
The project participants will be about 40 15/16-year-old students form Iceland and Holland who
attend the same class and two teachers per country.
The project will consist of online working phases and face to face project meetings. During the online working phases the students will do activities to introduce themselves to the students from the partner country, produce and exchange videos about their way of life
and interact via eTwinning and social media. Furthermore, they will do extensive research about the group topics mentionned above. The results of the students’ work will be documented through their videos, portfolios or vlogs, the program of the parents evenings and the creative output for the exhibitions at both schools.
As a result of the project students will be able to work and collaborate independently on a common international project, choosing appropriate methods to reach their goals by themselves. Furthermore, they will get to know various ways of working and will learn to respect and accept them. Students will become more open-minded concerning working methods as well as other cultural and social settings. By using English as the working language of the project, students will improve their language skills in
English. Both schools will get a European and international dimension, which might also encourage
our graduates to consider studying abroad.
