Project Summary
Our schools are part of the big European family known as Charter of European rural communities, an association of small rural communities and towns from all 27 EU countries plus British representative. During the celebration of 30 years anniversary four teacher came with the idea to start Charter for Teachers and this project will be the first step.
Our schools want to prepare pupils for some of the upcoming 21. century skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, responsible acting, collaboration, team work and communication in foreign languages and mother tongue as well.
The objectives of this project are:
– To improve the English skills of our students using real communication situations
– To create durable bonds between students residing rural communities in Europe
– To make European citizenship something real for our pupils
– To sensitize our students to sustainable development and climate change in our different countries.
To do this, we plan to make common lesson plans in order to organize and prepare our pupils for a Youth meeting in southern France. During this meeting (our students coming from 4 European countries will meet and live “adventures” and activities together during a week. They will have to communicate in English during activities about sustainable development, rural communities issues in Europe and during the daily life. Another essential objective is empowering our pupils on a personal level. We have noticed that they are often insecure and not self-reliant enough. They have difficulties assessing their own abilities and little faith in themselves. The project will help them broaden their mind and improve their competences and attitudes. We need to support our pupils in acquiring and developing their skills and competences, not only with regard to their education and skills, but on a personal level as well to ensure they evolve into strong, self-reliant and competent individuals. This project will take them out of their comfort zone and let them experience different, more informal education.
20 pupils plus 2 teachers from Croatia, Greece and Romania will take part in the project, while around 35 pupils and 4 teachers from France will join them in Charentes. They are 9 to 13 years old. 1 French and 1 Croatian teacher are in charge of the project. They will be supported by other teachers and staff of all schools. The schools’ staff and the pupils’ parents will participate in various activities taking place prior to the meeting.
