Project Summary
The project “Social entrepreneurship for sustainable growth” reacted to the current situation of youth unemployment in Cyprus and Spain and had the aim to introduce the principle of social entrepreneurship as a possible solution to both the employment and the social situation in these countries. The objective was to give the target group, young unemployed academics, the necessary skills and knowledge to make starting up their own social enterprises possible. The project involved 12 young persons from Cyprus and Spain who belong to the target group as well as other young persons, local stakeholders and institutions. In order to reach the aims of the project the 2 groups implemented a series of activities including the development of ideas for social businesses and the creation of business plans. The activities of the project lasted for 11 months from December 2014 to October 2015 and they further included research into the topic of social entrepreneurship and sustainable growth, interviews with local stakeholders, workshops, visits to local enterprises, dissemination and evaluation activities. The project implemented 2 transnational meetings with workshops, visits, discussions, open presentations and evaluation activities.
The results of the project was the blog (https://sustainablegrowthyouth.wordpress.com/), facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/943690198979660/?fref=ts) the business plans, presentations, interview, reports. Also they had the change to increase skills and knowledge for the group implementing the project but also for their peer group. An increase in creativity through the development of business ideas, the transfer of good practices and entrepreneurship through the management of the project, the implementation of the activities and the creation of business plans was also result of this project. These skills transferred and supported by the actual involvement of the group of participants in all the phases of the project following a learning by doing methodology. The expected impact of the project not only reached the central group of 12 persons but spreed to their peers, relevant stakeholders and institutions giving ideas and information about social entrepreneurship and the chances it presents for unemployed persons.
