Project Summary

The Swarming project was an INTERNATIONAL INITIATIVE and brought together three partners with their activities in performance & visual arts, music, poetry, innovative education for youth and activism.

It sought to challenge perceptions of existing spaces both public & private by re-claiming & re-interpreting them through extraordinary & multidisciplinary arts events that took place in unexpected places. Occurring mostly as ‘happenings’ or a series of one off events created for, or in response to a specific place the project Swarming aimed to facilitate a platform for exchange between artists & non-artists, foreign & local, by celebrating similarities & differences through music, visual art & local culture as a way to provoke new thinking and approaches around issues of separation, migration & borders.

Events were interpreted & challenged through the specifics of a particular location. Swarming addressed both urban & rural areas in Slovenia, Czech Republic & France. The project worked innovatively with the target group (locals and artists) which was involved directly-actively and within the topic of a border on different levels and developed the interconnection of young people, children, professional artists and locals with art and cultures.

In the first phase of the project all partners were invited to the Floating Castle Festival in Slovenia to come with artists from all selected priorities (performance & visual arts, music, poetry, innovative education) to participate on a common project together to exchange the methodology and experience in their field, develop interdisciplinary abilities and improve their professional skills.
In the second phase each partner organized events with his specific priority but with the previous experience of involving other mediums. There were Four seasons Pecha kucha nights, local poetry festival and thematic exhibitions, concerts and cinema in specific areas (a garage, an old factory, public park) in Czech Republic. In France there was a Festival of children poetry Ville en Poesie happening.
During two years the partners met together to evaluate and prepare further program and cooperation in Slovenia, Czech Republic and France.

Locals became hosts of the “swarm” of artists at their home courtyard and flats during the Couch festival in Slovenia. Many events were for free and co-organized with local groups to help people from socially and geographically obstacles areas to participate in the events.
