Project Summary

In relation to rapid changes in the labour market, aging population and immigration issues, there is a continual need for adult training in the EU member states that sets the requirements to the quality of training into a totally new perspective. Adult educators need the knowledge and skills that are necessary to train the adults of different target groups on key competences. Adult education institutions, especially non-formal education organisations, feel the need for a curriculum framework that would serve as the basis for the syllabi suitable for use in the day-to-day adult educators’ training.
The main objective of the project was fostering quality improvements, innovation excellence and enhancing transnational cooperation. The main task was the development of curriculum framework for training the adult educators who teach the different target groups basic skills AEAE Andras has gained experience of participating in and coordinating transnational adult education projects. Andras is the awarding body of adult educator’s occupational qualifications in Estonia and also offers qualified adult educators a range of various activities supporting their professional development – seminars, information days, master classes, conferences, regional workshops. Andras is a social partner for Ministry of Education and Research.
ENEAE is non-profit, non-governmental organisation. ENAEA is the national umbrella organization for adult education organizations/providers and have 69 member organisations. ENAEA is a social partner for Ministry of Education and Research.
The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) has two main goals: to educate its undergraduate and postgraduate students, and to produce original scientific knowledge and innovative research. The University Research Policy has two main objectives: to promote quality and to foster excellence.
Global Learning and Skills Partnership (GLaSP) is a non-profit training and research organisation. The organisation promotes training and development to adults and young people, especially those that are disadvantaged or socially excluded. It provides training and development opportunities for professionals that work with excluded groups, and in that respects targets teachers, trainers, community development and youth workers.
AidLearn (Portugal) is a service’s private organisation that operates at national and EU level. It aims for contributing to a better qualification of Portuguese HR by building up a learning organisation concerned with the equality of opportunities, providing quality and innovative services targeted to actual needs of organisations and individuals, and by internally developing a strong commitment and team working.
SVEB is the Swiss national organisation for adult education and operates as a professional association and pressure group. It is represented through offices in all three language regions. In addition, they also manage the Training for Trainers, which is also represented in the different language regions. The role of the SVEB, as a professional and national association of adult learning, is therefore to develop innovative and efficient projects in the field of basic skills.
The project activities focused on the development of the curriculum framework of adult educators, including curriculum piloting and dissemination activities. The project activities were carried out by adult education organisations from six European countries (Estonia, Greece, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and UK).
As to the results and direct impact of the project, participating partner countries have curriculum framework based on which they can train adult educators and improve the quality of training. Implementation of national and EU policies on a larger scale can be considered as an indirect impact of the project.
Main beneficiaries were 7 partner organisations from 6 European countries, adult educators in other European countries, providers of continuing education for adult educators. Other stakeholders who can benefit are adult learners as the quality of teaching is better (professional), decision makers and politicians in the field of adult education can count on high-quality adult education.
After the project, partners continue the activities related to the development of professionalism of adult educators, including development of adult educators` occupational qualification standards.
Dissemination via EPALE platform provides the project with greater publicity and availability across Europe. Use of EPALE platform supports also longer-term benefits. The results of the project provide further co-operation between the partners as well as providing the base of developing new frameworks and applying the current frameworks on target groups in formal and non-formal education. The results of the project were widely distributed in the partnering countries through various channels which made the results readily available for everyone with an interest.
