Project Summary
The project ‘Team Up & Reform Netizens – Outdoor Fantastic Fun’ was developed in response to needs and goals of the students, teachers and head teachers of the four partner schools from Poland, Romania, Belgium and Latvia. The project lasted 24 months (01.09.2017-31.08.2019) and Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace in Nisko (Poland) was coordinating. The main goals of the project were making students aware of the need to change their free time habits, especially the need to give up mobile devices which may be detrimental to mental and physical health of students, and offering the students diverse forms of free time spending instead. Some other goals chosen by the partner group were as follows:
– developing linguistic competences of students and teachers;
– improving physical and mental condition of students;
– promoting healthy lifestyle;
– developing intercultural competence and promoting the attitudes of tolerance, openness, and comprehension among students and teachers;
– equalizing educational chances of students from disadvantaged environments and students with special needs.
The target group comprised 92 people directly (74 secondary school students aged 16-19, from small towns, spending most of their free time with their mobile devices and 18 teachers from the partner schools) and 1200 people indirectly (other students, teachers and head teachers of the partner schools, parents and the local communities, local councils, all the target audiences of dissemination results).
The project was based on the following activities:
– 1 transnational staff meeting (May 2018) dedicated to summarising the foregoing activities and organising a conference for head teachers and coordinators of partner schools, which served as an opportunity for the exchange of good practices
– 4 short-term exchanges of groups of pupils (one in each partner school: Poland – January 2018, Belgium – April 2018, Romania – October 2018, Latvia – May 2019) during which students were presented with activities aimed at familiarizing them with modes of spending free time alternative to mobile devices and developing linguistic, social and intercultural competences of the participants. In total there were 100 mobilities.
– project management: budget control and time management, monitoring and evaluating the quality of the project’s activities and results, handling project risks, cooperation and communication among partners
– ensuring that the project’s results will remain available and will be used by others
– dissemination activities.
The following results were achieved among the participants:
– increased awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyle for physical condition and mental health;
– openness towards new cultures, developing intercultural competences;
– improved linguistic and social competences of students and teachers;
– acquired ability to cooperate in an international peer group effectively and without conflicts;
– acquired ability to organise free time in ways other than in front of a screen of a mobile device;
– established partnerships among the partner schools and cooperation among their teachers;
– increased knowledge about culture, geography, touristic attractions of the partner countries;
– equalized educational chances of students from disadvantaged environments;
– improved image of the partner schools in their local communities and broadening their educational offer to involve intercultural exchanges;
– gaining new experience connected with coordinating and managing international projects.
The impact of the project concerned not only students but also their families, teachers, partner schools and their local communities. The families of the students who got involved in the project realised how important skilful use of free time is in life. Contacts with foreigners enabled them to get rid of prejudices and stereotypes and teach them tolerance towards other cultures and religions. Visiting partner schools helped teachers gain more teaching experience and improve their pedagogical competences, especially those connected with modelling appropriate attitudes of students. The partner schools gained valuable experience, the local institutions got integrated. The potential longer term benefits are, among others, activating students to undertake activities connected with developing passions and improving mental and physical condition, improving the quality of teaching and pedagogical work of teachers, establishing partnerships among schools, gaining experience in European projects.
