Project Summary
TeLiTo – Teenage Life in a world of tomorrow is a project between Langinkosken koula, in Kotka, Finland and the Willy-Brandt-Realschule, in Königsbach, Germany.
As international cooperation is one of the interests at Langinkoski school and Willy-Brandt-Realschule (WBRS), they have decided to apply for a project together. The relationship between the two schools was established on an Erasmus+ Structured Course in Sweden in 2018, and there was a mutual understanding of the two schools being able to work well as partners in a common project. What is more, there has not been a connection between Langinkoski school and any German school recently, and since German is a popular optional language at the school, it is vital that some cooperation with Germany is established. For the WBRS the motivation is to learn about modern teaching methods in the digital era and how to deal with heterogeneous classes.
During the project both schools want to give the students the possibilitiy to exchange cultural and European values. Especially in the region of the WBRS the number of European critics are rising and we want to spread tolerance towards other EU nations. Being a part of this project would bring both the students and the staff of both schools several benefits. They would be able to use English and German as true means of communication in real-life situations in interaction with their peers. The main topics of the project is widely covered in today’s media, that being the future. There are only guesses, at best, what skills tomorrow’s EU citizens will need or what type of inventions will be part of everyone’s daily life.
The direct contact between the students will make an impact in their way of thinking as EU citizen. This project wants to tackle that challenge and prepare the participants to what may lie ahead in the future.
Our project is necessary and vital to all students, parents and teachers involved because:
– there will be various encounters with another EU country, its political as well as its school system that will enlarge both the students´, the parents´ and the teachers´ horizons as well as their understanding of a functioning EU community that is strong enough to face and overcome all kinds of prejudices including national and racial prejudices. Being a host for an European student or being a guest in another country permits the students to experience with the culture of another Europan country. In the students’ mobilities their will be activities to increase their knowledge about the EU countries. For instance students create art objects with the help of different media. We will get to know each others Christmas traditions and prepare presentations in form of art objects about the EU-countries, presenting the results in a school exhibition and at a school party. With these activities we want to tear down prejudices.
– the project will change the teachers´ and students´ awareness of how to live within an eco-friendly environment and how to live economically sustainably themselves. With activities like visiting local companies under ecological aspects and building a house model of sustainable living we want to create that awareness. Langinkoski koulu has got good contacts to the local paper mill to have an educational visit there. The WBRS is situated in an area with lots of metal-working companies and has very good contacts with lots of companies because of their vocational preparation courses. As well the main base of the “dm” company is close and we plan a tour there as well.
– it will help them to discover Digital media as an inclusive part of their future lives. In all our activities with students we will use for instance “stop motion” video apps, “learning apps”/ quizlet or others to create quizzes or any results or blogs to communicate and present results of the students workflow. –
– Teachers are going to provide lessons with digital media and disseminate their material on eTwinning and our blog.
– Teachers will produce teaching guides for each part of the project and for the lessons they will provide in their partner schools.
– the project will challenge both students and teachers to practice, enlarge and round off their language skills both in English and German, even Finnish as they communicate with each other and their guest families.
– it will encourage them to being confident EU citizens by gaining more knowledge.
For the time of the project we will establish an “Erasmus+ club” with the students who participate in the project. The club will meet regularily every two weeks. The age of the students will be in the range of 12-15 years old who will undergo a selection process for participating in the project. The students’ performance at school, their reliability and of course their motivation will be the criterias for joining the project.
