Project Summary

“Teleph-on or teleph-off? Use of traditional, regional, manual techniques from regions of Zamojszczyzna and Krotone as a tool for prevention of phonoholism” is a Polish-Italian cooperation project between 4 schools of different profiles – III Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Zamosc, Zespół Szkół Ponadgimnazjalnych Nr. 5 in Zamość, Istituto Omnicompresivo in Ciro (Calabria) and Istituto Istruzione Superiore “Mario Ciliberto” from Crotona. All partner schools had low attendance, which was clearly accompanied by a reduced interest in classroom lessons. With the help of school educators and based on surveys conducted among students and school psychologist and statistics at the coordinating school, it was found that the main reason may be the overuse of smartphones. Students say directly that they have nothing to do with their hands, so they reach for telephones and therefore cannot focus on classes. The participants of the project will be a group of students from four schools, primarily people with a tendency to overuse a mobile phone and students willing to participate in the project in the number of about 10 students from each school, aged 16-19 together with teachers who act as mentors of mobility and workshops. The main element of cooperation is the exchange of experience and knowledge about the heritage of European countries such as Poland and Italy as a tool to prevent addiction to mobile phones.
One of the goals of the project is to create optimal methods of “therapeutic” work on the obsession with aimless clicking and to disseminate the results of our work in other schools, because the problem of phonoholism at school is in Poland at the stage of preliminary research. We hope that the results of the project will include: developing ways of actively preventing phonoholism in both countries by referring to culture and long-known “folk” socialization methods, and raising awareness of the problem of phonoholism in the environment, including through the Conference on mobile phone addiction.
