Project Summary

The project « European lands, lands for the future » came from the dream that 6 schools located on the countryside had, in order to offer pupils a way open towards Europe, and towards their own future.

Our schools, being in the country, are at the heart of common issues : our pupils miss outward opening, often miss ambition, which implies little motivation for education, a risk of disengagement and questions about their future prospects.

This project aims at making our pupils appreciate the rural world they live in. We have to show them the various aspects of a world in constant evolution, the increasing interest it implies, as well as the cultural legacy associated with this world.
Our purpose is also to motivate our pupils about how to go on with their education, through the discovery of country jobs and the studies they require, by offering a diverse and stimulating discovery path. Furthermore, we wish to take part in the education of future European citizens, aware of the stakes of sustainable development at the heart of the rural world.
This innovative project is thus deeply rooted in the rural society our pupils live in, it opens their way towards the outside world and and their future, while developing their consciousness as Europeans.

The project “European lands, lands for the future”, is a multidisciplinary pathway involving many subjects taught in secondary schools (such as History, Geography, Science, foreign languages, Literature, Arts, civic education, guidance education…). It revolves around two themes : the first year will be dedicated to “Native lands and a rural evolving world”, and the second year to “ Rural societies, as definitely looking forward to the future and the outside world”. Each of these two themes will be divided into sub-themes all partners are going to work on. Final tasks will be produced in different forms : web-radio programs, articles, booklets, slide-shows, exhibitions, videos… The documentary research will be led either via information technologies and/or the Internet, either based on inquiries and interviews carried out in the field with the meeting of professionals.
Each partner will take care of at least one final task produced from the documents provided by the 6 countries. These final tasks will be published in the three languages of the project : French, English and Spanish.

Students will be brought to develop their language skills in their mother tongue and foreign languages to communicate with the other partners, as well as their skills in documentary research, using Information Technologies. They will improve their knowledge on the themes they will work on, chosen for their links with the curriculum .

Besides, taking up the challenge of getting involved in a European project will allow our students to take responsibility for the stake implied by such a work with foreign partners. We are aiming at an improvement of their self-esteem, and thus a greater motivation for school learning. “European lands, lands for the future” will contribute to give greater significance to school learning for students having difficulties, by involving them into a concrete project giving them a sense of their self-worth.

In the long run, this project bears a strong potential of profit for our students. We expect more success in school learning, and as a consequence a more ambitious continuation of their studies. We want to improve an international opening, particularly towards Europe for our students and our schools. The students who will take part in this project will be able to get involved in other international experiences more easily (exchanges, long stays abroad…) as high school or college students. Our schools will acquire a new experience allowing them to perpetuate projects involving foreign partners (Erasmus or other). We do hope that, through this project gathering six European partners, we will participate efficiently in the education of tomorrow’s citizens.
