Project Summary

Coordinating school : Institut Lemonnier, Caen, France (VET, scientific, and agricultural schools, Technician diploma, 1310)

Partnering schools :

• Ferdinand-Porsche-Gymnasium Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart, Germany (Scientific and Humanities school, 400 students),
• Salezjańskie Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. ks. Augusta Czartoryskiego, Minsk Mazowiecki, Poland (Scientific and humanities high school, 200 students).

Our project embraces the Battle of Normandy both from the Geographical and Historical perspectives. Three European schools are united together to study and reflect on this historical fact and understand its importance for the European Construction and Identity.

General Objectives :

• Promote competencies development, social inclusion, critical mind set and youth involvement through a historical research program carried on by the students,
• Raise awareness on the importance of Europe’s cultural patrimony through education,
• Set up educational initiatives to foster intercultural dialogue between students and professors, and confrontation of cross-national prejudices on World War II,
• Phrase and contribute to the humanistic dimension of the European construction,
• Educate European citizens.

The project is set up on :

• Three mobilities to the three partnering schools : historical visits, linguistical and cultural activities, family hosting,
• A student-performed cross-research work on the armoured divisions involved in the Battle of Normandy,
• Take part in the commemorations of the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landing on 6th June 2020,
• Making of a documentary showing the evolution of students’ cross-prejudices and stereotypes. It will be simultaneously screened in the three schools on June 6th, 2020.

• The museum N ° 4 Commando, Ouistreham,

• The Institute for the National Memory, Warsaw, Poland,
• The Museum of German History in Berlin, Germany,
• Bi-national Offices for the youth: : OFAJ/DFJW and PNWM/DPJW,
• Local authorities : we plan to apply for the “Normandie pour la paix” label created by the Normandy Region.
