Project Summary

The project theme: “The Ruhr Area in Transition” aimed to bring the students of the Sekundarschule Kirchhellen closer to the cultural and structural changes in their homeland. They got an eye for the leisure and sports offers, but also for the industrial and agricultural perspectives for a professional future. These insights activated them to make use of the varied offer in the Ruhr area and value it. Sightseeing, museums, farms and industrial facilities were visited together with the Czech partner pupils, and the insightful people they have gained were reflected together. In teaching projects (such as housekeeping, music, technology, computer science, sports), the students worked together on various topics. Thus, craft, creative and cognitive skills were addressed in. All offers had been also opened to our students with special educational needs and included low-threshold teaching components that can also be tackled by pupils with learning needs. The projects were prepared by specialist teachers and carried out and evaluated together with the Czech colleagues.
The projects were attended by the 25 students of our school, who accept a Czech student. In addition there were the 25 guest students, so that for the 50 participating students 5 to 6 project offers were available on four to five project days. In addition, there was sightseeing, excursions and a city tour. The local politicians were involved when district mayor KIrchhellens greets the group when they arrived at the school and that the mayor received the students in the city hall of the city of Bottrop. Involved were also the guardians of the receiving students. They were particularly involved in the program items where travel services were needed or where catering was required for the project participants.
For selected projects and activities, the local press had been invited to report on the exchange. The exchange and the results were also disseminated via the school homepage and the newsletter of our school.
Following the exchange, the project results were displayed in the corridors of our school. Digital presentations of the individual project componentshad been shown to all students during the “Open Stage”.
We hoped that this exchange was enable students to learn tolerance and understanding of diversity and diversity through coexistence and learning with foreign partners, and to accept cultural peculiarities and to enrich them.
