Project Summary

The mixed institutional project with the title ’The Social Service for Students, as a Complex Institutional Innovative Programme’ has planned its programme to develop public education for a 28-month period with 5 secondary schools from 5 countries, completed with a Hungarian civil society.
The topic of the project is the integration of students’ community service into the educational system, the development and adaptation of service-learning in the international arena. The composition of international partnership was established, according to the objectives, by the involvement of schools with topic-related skills, efficient programmes, experience, briefly ’good practises’ to share. The basic idea is that on the basis of the identification and distribution of these national-level, unique and individual ’good pracices’ we wish to develop intellectual outputs leading to a complex institutional innovation allowing its users to develop methodology and attitude.
The international necessity of our project is justified by the fact that there have been several attempts and initiatives across Europe to undertake the topic of school voluntary work and/or community service, but only few of them could achieve successful, long-term results, moreover, most of them did not even cross the borders. We wish to choose from these ’good pracrtices’ and create a cross-border programme capable of the establishment of the institutional and educational (pedagogical-teacher-student) development.
The project aimed at the development of intellectual outputs besides carrying out competition activites. The language of the project is English as this is the language of the results and innovations of the competition.

We do not seek to find solutions to a problem related to an individual country, but with the results of our project we offer an opportunity to be adapted even at European level. We wish to fill a gap with this complex programme which later any participants of European or even non-European public education could benefit from.
The social sensitivity of the Z generation is weak and steadily weakening, their approach to their fellow humans and peers and their human relationships need to be improved due to the digitalization and the time spent on-line. That is why one of the main objectives of our project is to strengthen social sensitization, acceptance and responsibility on the widest possible range of levels (inclusion, acceptance, volunteering, community service etc.)

Strategic objectives:
 Creating a programme to be integrated at European level, which serves as a bridge between education (school-teachers-students) and the host institutes (social, civil and other non-profit organisations)
 Establishing a community service system which is focused on the student, memorable and allows alternative-complex education to be linked to everyday life
 Drawing up an educational programme and system related to community service (service learning), which can be integrated into the educational programmes of the schools and everyday education
Theoretical objectives:
 Awareness-raising – changing attitude – personal development – sensitization
 System formation – development of organisational culture
 Knowledge sharing , exchange of expertise – identification, transfer and adaptation of the ’good practices’

On the one hand, the main focus is on secondary school students, they are the primary target group.
Another target group is the circle of teachers, educators, trainers to whom we are creating the educational and training materials.
Our third target group is the circle of the host institutions and their employees appearing during the social and societal activies of the students.

Our intellectual outputs to be created comprise a complex and convergent system with each of its elements playing a crucial role. The intellectual outputs constitute a coherent system, but they are also managable on their own, according to our plans all of them could be selected for adaptation and extension.
Methodology of Service Learning: Service Learning is a pedagogical proposal that links Service (citizenship and volunteering for the community) and Learning (the acquisition of professional, methodological and social skills) so that the students can develop their knowledge and skills through a service in solidarity with community.
The mission of our project is the development of public education by offering the students a system in which their social responsibility and sensitivity, and societal activity are enhanced by voluntary community activity.
Our innovation (our intellectual properties O1-O5) and their complementary project results are underpinned by the fact that in the public education sector there has not been a complex system (programme package) to be adapted at European level and educational-training material focusing on the integrated activity of students’ community service and students’ voluntary work (service-learning).
