Project Summary
In the six countries participating in the project (Croatia, France, Germany , Greece, Italy, Spain) population movements linked to conflict or disastrous economic situations have long since moved out of the news and into our cities and classrooms.
Immigration management is and will remain high on the European agenda and one of the core issues is to ensure a smooth integration of the displaced populations.
We think it is important that our pupils address the issue of immigration in a school context in order to avoid excesses linked to simplistic and populist explanations.
They must also be made aware of the danger of creating social groups that would be de facto excluded from a European community, a situation that would carry within it the seeds of future social conflicts.
Based on a combination of activities combining workshops, artwork, research, visits and meetings with refugees, we intend to :
– make our students aware of their changing social environment.
– promote the values of interculturalism and avoid the creation of socially-outcast groups.
– encourage empathy through simulation workshops.
– increase their factual knowledge of immigration in Europe.
– make our students aware of the complexity of the migration issue.
– raise awareness of the challenges and discrimination that minority groups may face.
– gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of discrimination in society.
– encourage reflection on intercultural competences.
– open a discussion about cultures, values and symbols.
– encourage reflection on migration and citizenship rules in a country.
In a more academic perspective, our motivations are also to :
– improve linguistic skills through work in multinational teams.
– Improve ICT skills, especially through the use the online mapping tool ArcGis to make data tell a story.
– foster team work in an international context.
