Project Summary
The project envisaged cooperation among cooperation three organizations (from Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine) which taking up numerous activities for the benefit of young people promote the development of civic awareness and process of building social community based on cultural and historical heritage. All these three organizations involved in the project are aimed at reaching out to young generation of citizens. Therefore, we decided to present our message and ideas in various ways and use both tried and tested forms of communication (outdoor, field games, meetings) and new technologies (audio description, audiobooks, websites), which give a wide range of possibilities.
Having taken into consideration common objectives of our organizations, groups of our listeners and similar forms of our activities we realized the project “The voice of history”, where:
1. we recorded four audiobooks in three different languages (Polish, Ukrainian and Lithuanian). Our publications present mutual cultural closeness and complex history of people who have lived in this region of Europe over centuries. Initially, our project assumed only three audiobooks. As we found out there was a growing demand for our publications and we still had enough means to widen our project’s scope we decided to record one more audiobook;
2. we chose fifty memorial sites in Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine, and we made audio descriptions presenting the history of these sites as well as their historical significance. We used QR technology to generate, store and share our recordings. Each person with a smartphone or other dedicated device may scan a QR code, which automatically redirects users to the websites, where we uploaded photos, short information and audio descriptions (available in three languages: Polish, Ukrainian and Lithuanian, and also in German, Russian and English);
3. we created scenarios for three field games based on memorial sites featuring our audio descriptions;
4. we presented the results of our project (in the form of audiobooks) on the websites of two organizations: Centrum Kultury Polskiej i Dialogu Europejskiego in Ivano-Frankivsk and We Go Project
Following organizations took part in the project:
1. leading organization (Poland) – Fundacja Wolne Dźwięki: our mission is to shape civic and patriotic attitudes among young people in Poland. We make a great effort to promote literary output of prominent, but often censored and forgotten authors, in a modern and interesting way.
2. participating organization (Ukraine) – Centrum Kultury Polskiej i Dialogu Europejskiego: conducts many cultural activities in Ivano-Frankivsk (formerly: Stanisławów), launches and realizes numerous youth initiatives. Centrum organizes various cultural events and meetings with interesting people, who willingly share their ideas and experiences with the local community.
3. participating organization (Lithuania) – We Go Project: is a non-governmental and non-profit organization, which brings together active people interested in mutual development. The We Go Project is managed by volunteers who organize sport camps, seminaries, tutorials, meetings and international youth exchanges, as well as many other positive events or activities.
This international project (involving partners from three European countries: Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine) was a huge challenge for our teams and volunteers. It is important to mention, that each organization had already sufficient experience and knowledge, which helped us achieve our mutual goals. We have made a significant contribution to raising awareness about history, culture and heritage values of our region. As we share the same interest in modern history and together look forward to an occasion to discuss our historical relations, we believe that we will be able to continue our project in the future. Our publications (audiobooks and audio descriptions) are still available and we hope that more people will benefit from our materials long after the end of this project.
