Project Summary
Thanks to the project, two open educational environments were created. One in the Polish Municipality of Tarnobrzeg, second in the Italian Municipality of Voghera. All entities involved in the implementation of the programme have undertaken to work towards improving the quality of education in the field of Mathematics and related subjects. The development and the implementation of innovative methods of teaching of young people aged 13-16 years old was helpful. In order to achieve the intended purpose, a group of consultants and practicioners carried out a series of workshops and training for the teachers involved. Among other things were devoted to stimulating the brain functions in the process of learning, working techniques with a talented student and with a student who has difficulty in assimilation of knowledge and the use of activating methods in practice. In the course of the workshops, teachers learnt how to use modern digital tools (mobile phones, tablets, etc.) during the school classes. Face-to-face meetings and working visits in partner institutions helped to raise the level of teaching, and helped to acquire new skills by methodological consultants, teachers and management staff. They allowed for observations involved , specialized talks and discussions. In this way, the knowledge gained allowed school administration and teachers so lead a didactic process to make learning an interesting intellectual adventure for students, an opportunity to demonstrate their personal creativity, independence of thought and conduct. More frequent out of classrooms for individual field studies, participation in school and urban picnics and festivals of science as well as participation in the exhibitions presenting the achievements of domestic and foreign scientists, engineers, technicians was helpful. Local managers undertook tasks for the promotion of best practices for teaching Mathematics and science implemented in Middle School No 3 in Tarnobrzeg and Liceo Scientifico Statale “Galileo Galilei” in Voghera and both those schools became leaders of the desired changes for the environment. Information about the progress of the work on the project was systematically communicated to all teachers in search of new solutions through different channels(websites, expert periodicals, local press, technical conferences). At the end, the development of books containing the most interesting lesson plans, the descriptions of methodological tools, the collection of tasks and also films showing the process of different experiments in Physics, Chemistry, Biology was prepared.
