Project Summary
Human, as a weak creature has always strived to enhance its life conditions in order to protect itself from the other species and the nature. In time, although their main objective was to survive and exist as a species, humans lost control and started to struggle with its own kind and the nature. At this point,we are paying for the damage we caused on the nature. Now it is time to pay our debts. As we have yet to find another place to live in the universe, we have to protect the Earth and hold on to its gifts.
“Mountains, rivers, seas, soil, forests and biodiversity…” We are living in a world that is full of wonders. However we, with our modern life style, seriously pollute that world. Issues such as climate change, ocean waste, crumpled eco-system and pollution of our planet are continuously on the agenda.
So what can we do to raise awareness and protect natural life against these issues? In this Project,6 schools from 5 different program countries are going to work together and think and act about what we can do in our daily lives to save our planet.
This project aims to increase the attention our students pay to natural sciences and sustainable environment. It focuses on ensuring that our students make positive and conscious decisions about preserving the environment with all its glory and making sustainable and important amendments.
As a preparation to the project, environment questionnaires have been applied to and by the partner schools. As a result of the international qualitative research data, it is seen that there are important deficiencies in environment protection, integration of natural life to urban life, effective use of energy resources and awareness of recycling and waste management. It is especially found out that urban life standards are uncontrollably increasing and the harm caused to natural life is not well understood.
20 students and 13 teachers from each partner school are going to participate in the transnational activities of the project. The number will be much higher in the national activities (about 200 students from each partner). During these activities, the importance of the awareness and perception about natural life and clean world will be stressed with different materials through entertaining informal and non-formal education methods. With the exchange of good practices, the ideas of the students will be positively changed and they will scientifically learn the conditions of preserving the environment and natural life.
Innovative methods to decrease global pollution problem and the insufficiency of recycling (the most important issue according to WWF) will be among the objectives of our project.
By protecting natural resources and integrating the welfare of natural habitats to urban life and by answering the question “What have we accomplished?” instead of asking “What have we lost?”, we will attract attention to the cruciality of raising awareness about the environment. With this purpose, each partner is going to create a miniature natural eco-system with the seeds unique to the country. Thus, the duties of regaining the eco-systems and leaving a habitable world for the future generations will be carried out on the social environments of the students through sensual and scientific researches.
We have to take responsibility for a sustainable future. All of us, with our students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders, wish to decrease wastes, increase recycling, preventing the unnecessary use of natural resources and use energy effectively. We undertake the mission of ensuring that humans will respect the environment and the nature.
If students learn the skill of understanding the natural cycles and ecosystems that make life on earth possible, and if life can also be in coherence with these cycles, a sustainable future will be possible without more loss. This project is going to strengthen the basic information that the students have about ecology and contribute to the preservation of the environment. During the activities we will also work on understanding and encouraging the relationship between society, humans and the environment.
Our project not only aims to raise awareness about protecting the nature but also to raise awareness about intercultural interaction and European Citizenship. Positive cooperation will make it easy to reach the common objectives of the project.
All the students that will participate in the national and transnational project activities are between 13-18.The project is going to ensure that these youngsters develop their skills and become conscious citizens that will work for the betterment of the world around them. The skills they are going to learn from the project activities will be sustainable all through their lives and transferrable to all their surroundings. Learning about different cultures, legends, myths and point of views of their peers from different cultures will increase their internationalization and growth as well as their schools’.
