Project Summary
Because we have had a rich and fruitful experience on a previous Erasmus project, which we have seen the very positive impact on students who are mostly from disadvantaged social backgrounds, we want to enable our students to discover the world and live travel experiences.
We propose a project in which these two subjects will be our guideline.
It will target students in the 12-15 age group .
Its name is ” On horizon and beyond!”.
It will take two years.
Our schools have some similarities :
• Children from disadvantaged backgrounds
• A strong will to continue to improve both students and teachers’ basic learning skills through a project-based teaching and innovative tools.
• Creation of an enabling environment to motivate and encourage students to undergo a high-quality training, through innovating thematic approaches, so as to give a real meaning to their studies.
• Dissemination of a common European culture that we historically share with its own values : cooperation, solidarity and citizenship.
All the project partners are ready to share and exchange their ideas on this subject and to promote the idea of Europe.
Five hundred years after the ”circum navigation”, like Magellan who left with five vessels, five schools take a trip around the world with their students to give them an opening on the world, on the others and on themselves thanks to the tools of the twenty-first century.
The aim will be to decline the travels through interdisciplinary practices : physical, imaginary, virtual and literary trip in the style of great reporters (Pigafetta).
Two transnational meetings will be planned.
M1: The first meeting will be an opportunity to know eachother.
Each school will present its school system and how the school operates.
During this meeting, we will adjust the details of the organization of the project such as the planning of meetings and LTT, the human resources of each school, the responsibilities of each school to carry the project, the responsibilities of each coordinator, the LTT modalities and the evaluation of the project.
The actions in the LTTs will be specified.
The final result will be a collection of travel diaries. We will work on the steps to achieve it .
The meeting will take place in Rieux-Minervois.
M2: During this last meeting, we will take stock of the project: the final evaluation, the final product, the LTTs, dissemination, exchanges of teaching practice, and the contribution of the project within schools.
According to each partner’s experience, we will try to determine how each school will be able to pursue the project.
We will start the writing of the final report.
This meeting will take place in european city (Strasbourg).
Five meetings “Learning Activities / Teaching / Training” will take place:
The LTTs will be organized in such a way that each student will travel through a physical, imaginary and virtual trip. During and after this trip, the students will make a travel diary. It will be the result of cooperation between the students of each partner school and cooperation between each school.
C1 : (February 2020 in Lisbon)
The discovery of Magellan’s world tour through Antonio Pigafetta’s diary
C 2 : (April 2020 in Romania)
An imaginary trip – a virtual map about Danube and a real navigation on Danube to the Delta.
C 3: (October 2020 in France)
A mini trip to the sea along the Canal du Midi to discover the commercial harbour in Port-la-Nouvelle.
C5 : (December 2020)
Journey and Copernican Revolution: A journey to understand how scientific discoveries have led to a new representation of the world by Europeans and their influence on discoveries by great navigators.
C4: (April / May 2021 in Italy)
Journey between settlements and migrations: understand how the island of Lampadusa is both a place that has been colonized and a place of migration.
This project will help students learn about different cultures.
They will have the opportunity to learn to respect diversity, to be tolerant, and to cooperate in order to produce a common final product which will be written to five schools: a collection of travel diaries.
This will be the way to build friendships with schools in Europe.
In the long term, participation in this project will provide:
– better training of pupils, so they will be better prepared to get a higher level of qualification
– a better experience for teachers with a development of new skills experienced over the two years
Each school will have a rich experience, thus providing a higher quality training.
