Project Summary
The project “Together for a United Europe” is conceived in the service of social cohesion proposing concrete actions for the promotion of solidarity, democratic and ethical values. The goal is the development of social civic and intercultural skills of educational communities (students, teachers, parents, social partners) through the cooperation between European schools in order to encourage active citizenship and to contribute to the social inclusion of people in difficulty. Our actions are complementary with the European educational policy of developing an advanced society, founded on social cohesion and knowledge, which explains our need to accomplish these actions through a transnational project.
This project is a partnership between 4 high schools in Romania (Carol I National College, Craiova, Romania), France (Georges Cabanis High School, Brive), Lithuania (Vytauto Didziojo High School, Klaipeda) and Bulgaria (Acad. Lyudmil Stoyanov Bilingual High School, Blagoevgrad). The working language is French but English, Lithuanian and Bulgarian will be also used throughout the entire project, valuing European linguistic diversity. The project has 4 directions (branches): Social inclusion, Citizenship, Citizens’ behaviours, Diversity, each partner high school being the Coordinator of one of these themes.
The proposed objectives are social, linguistic, cultural and pedagogical, mainly:
– Raising awareness among students and teachers to fight against all forms of discrimination on grounds of sex, race and ethnicity, religion or faith, disability or age
– Changing mentality and attitudes to become active European citizens involved in the life of the society
– Increasing tolerance and mutual understanding through respect for and promotion of cultural and linguistic diversity
– Strengthening critical and educational spirit regarding the media, the Internet and social networks as alternative manifestation of resistance against all forms of discrimination, violence and indoctrination
-Developing teaching skills by improving transdisciplinary approaches (social and human sciences, arts, foreign languages, natural sciences)
– Developing skills and abilities among the youth in disadvantaged backgrounds
The project teams will develop action plans to ensure the quality of the project throughout the entire life cycle (preparation, implementation, monitoring, upgrading and dissemination of results, evaluation).
The methodology of the project involves a wide range of approaches: lectures, debates, workshops, visits and thematic outings, theatre-forum as a form of social intervention, practical activities (manufacturing of traditional handcraft objects (manuals), workshops on gastronomy) and artistic activities (fine arts, photos, posters, dances), movies and exhibitions will allow participants to confront, throughout the entire project with the dynamic approach of the concepts studied both in the international cooperation and with local partners in the field of social inclusion.
Used methods: focus groups, group discussions, working groups, surveys, observation, questionnaires, documentary research, interviews, oral presentations using power point, videos.
The results will be rendered in terms of skills, knowledge, and developed skills due to the project and also in terms of final products: posters, a minidictionary, movies and powerpoint presentations, a calendar of events, pedagogical guides, the web page of the project, charts, a citizen-based curriculum education course.
The innovative character of this project consists of interdisciplinary approaches (geographical, historical, socio-cultural, linguistic, human, artistic, technological), topics and methodologies adopted, international working groups associating disabled students, the exchange of good practices on inclusive policies and social action.
The activities designed, the expected results, the dissemination and valorization of the results have an important impact on the direct beneficiaries (the partner institutions, students and teachers and the indirect beneficiaries (parents, community members, students with special needs, economic and administrative actors, decision makers). Due to this project, participants have the opportunity to compare, assess the similarities and differences between them, and overcome preconceived ideas for a better integration in a United Europe. Being aware that it is time to act, they will work together for the social cohesion of a Europe threatened today by increasing violence, racism, discrimination and intolerance. The project “Together for a United Europe” is designed to find sustainable solutions for a more tolerant world.
