Project Summary

Context/background of project :
Paul Doumer middle school is a rural establishment in a town of the third outer-urban crown of Nantes with a social diversified public and has for ambition to offer the same cultural opening to all the pupils. It is an ambition shared by the middle school Jacopo Della Quercia.
Objectives of our project:
Become aware that beyond the diversity of the lifestyles, inside Europe, the pupils share a common culture, inherited from our past, and that they have to build their Europe of tomorrow in agreement with other citizens.
Realize a final production in team (the French pupils and the Italian pupils).
Present this project during open days.
Create a tourist part aimed at a non-school public.
In the EMC classes pupils have worked on citizenship, they acquired knowledge so that they could work in pairs and set up relevant questions on the European Union, the institutions, how they work, some important places, the economical and social advantages (Maastricht, Schengen).
Perpetuate the exchange.
Number and profile of the participants:
60 pupils (of 4ème and 3ème) and 4 teachers exchanging in French and in English.
Description of activities:
Regular correspondence between the pupils from 2019 to 2021.
Regular contact between the involved teachers.
Workshops at the “Maison de l’Europe”/Europe Center in Nantes and in Bologna.
Visit of the studios of Euradionantes.
Designing, questioning, realizing, sharing ideas and listening to the others (French and Italian pupils) to create a board game “My Europe of tomorrow”.
School exchanges (in March, 2020 and March, 2021), with cultural visits.
Methodology to be used in carrying out the project :
Exchange of e-mails and letters throughout the partnership.
Short description of the results and impact envisaged :
Understanding that all (pupils and adults) are members of a Europe to be built together tomorrow starting from a shared cultural heritage millennia.
Including Nort sur Erdre inhabitants and Bologners in this feedback (welcoming foreigners in host families, exhibitions in colleges, meetings with local elected officials, partnership with Tourism Offices)
Proposing to a large European public visiting Nort sur Erdre or Bologna a tourist booklet written in collaboration by French and Italian pupils.
Potential long-term benefits:
Awareness by pupils of their belonging to this community which is the European Union, awakening the desire to get involved in it as future citizens.
Pupils will have a deeper knowledge on Europe and its values, European citizenship will make sense.
European exchanges are valued because they are based on one of the European values: mobility.
