Project Summary

1, context / project background:
Our ambition to teach in our newly opened English bilingual grammar school is to do it professionally and authentically, not only in the local but also in the European context. Our goal was to increase the level of school education plans and the overall level of education of both partners from the local level to the European level.

2, goals:
– to increase the level of use of the authentic English language in the Slovak partner and for British partners to have the opportunity to discuss some Geography, History and RE topics in a community living outside the United Kingdom
– to use integrated content and language learning effectively
– to develop communication skills in all areas of education, especially in geography, dejection and religion
– to apply innovative pedagogical approaches aimed at students
– to bring the current European content of education into the learning process
– to build a long-lasting and stable partnership at the level of students, teachers and school leadership with the partner school, which will continue after the end of Project 2015-2017

3, number and profile of organizations involved:
Project partners in the project “Transforming partner schools’ educational programs at European level through sharing good practice innovations” were two schools of a similar type and age groups of students – Salesian School, Chertsey in the United Kingdom, and Bilingual Grammar School of St. John Bosco, one of the components of the Catholic School in Bardejov, Slovakia. Both schools are inspired by spirituality and the message of St. John Bosco both in upbringing and educating.

4, description of the main implemented activities:
There were two one-week mobilities for each school. Every time, the project activities were attended by 30 students and four Slovak teachers and for the Brithsh school, 30 students and three British teachers took part twice too. From the Slovak school, it was the whole class of bilingual grammar school students. From the British School, 30 students were selected on the basis of an interview and motivation letter. During the training sessions, students attended classes, worked in groups, went to excursions and geographic and historical walks with an expert commentary in English. Teachers observed classes at a partner school and discussed curriculum content, good practice and effective methods and approaches. Between mobilites, students, teachers and and school leaders communicated via Internet communication facilities.

5, achieved results and impact:
All project participants have increased their linguistic, digital and professional competences within their subject line, gained experience in implementing innovative methods and practice. Students also improved their language and communication skills and learned to use them in the context of other subjects of the wider learning process, improved their digital competences by putting some of the outcome in electronic version and learnt to work with partners at an international level. They actively participated in the creation of the content of their studies by making some study materials.

6, long-lasting benefits, if relevant:
Both schools were happy to cooperate, set up a working partnership, and will continue with other Erasmus plus projects, which will run from November 2017 to October 2019.
