Project Summary

The project between the schools of Anger/Austria and Szederkeny/Hungary was developed through communication between the children of those schools via letters and Skype. This communication led to a better understanding of the different cultures and the diversity of the languages. This deep understanding was in particular seen during their face-to-face meeting which was part of the exchange project.

Thanks to the intense work during the project and the help of the EU program the understanding of the european values was strengthened. New competences were learned by using modern media and technologies.

Part of this project were 114 pupils between 9-14 years, who were in grades four and six. These pupils were involved in different ways.

The kick-off of this project was in 201819 when the first letters were sent. This was followed by some meetings via skype. The personal exchange made it easier for both groups to understand the other culture and to deepen their cultural knowledge. In particular for the Hungarian pupils the exchange was a chance to improve their German skills.

The children were able to explore some of the gems of their own region, learn about culture, history, nature and art. They worked on their knowledge and created a deeper understanding of their own culture. The exchange of this knowledge was sadly not possible as planned because of language barriers.

But the children had the chance to explore these gems during their exchange visit and were able to see their importance.

Our long-term goals:

Cultural and language barriers and prejudices were reduced. Personal relationships were built and some families from Hungary and Austria were able to spend their holidays together.

The digital means of communication were very important during the exchange program and are still used to stay in contact with the new friends.
